Default Questions on 8520?

Please Login to Remove!

I am a potential newby.
Could you please tell me if the 8520 will work with an external Bluetooth GPS unit? Any app needed? /Recomended

As it only has 256mb of memory, is that like Android before Froyo, used for all your apps or can the apps be used from the sd card like Palm and Symbian?

Should do.

No, applications cannot be run from an SD card. Yes the 256MB is for OS, application installation, storage of emails, sms, contacts and for running any applications.

I also don't see any reason why the BT GPS puck won't work.

As far as apps, you won't need anything for the puck itself, but of course you need a mapping/navigation app. You may already have the BlackBerry Maps, unless your carrier hides it. But many people like Google's map and navigation app. Best to browse the gps section here on the forum.

Could I keep the map data on the Micro SD if I use on phone maps (so it can be used without having to have service)?
I am a bit worried about the 256 memory and am wondering about going for the Bold with double the memory. There would be a a 16g card in either one I choose to get. Forgive me if I got the thanks bit wrong, Thank you both for helping me

I don't believe there are any storable maps applications, best check the GPS section.

The 16GB card is literally only for media, [music, vids, pics, docs].

Most mapping and navigation apps download and scroll the map as you move. I have a vague memory of reading lately of apps (or app) that will store the map data on the card. But as said above, browsing the GPS section is the thing to do.

About the 256MB memory-- It will be adequate for now provided you don't go nuts downloading apps and themes, and you use the microSD card for your media, etc. If you don't need it, don't download it, and you'll be more than fine.

That said, if your budget allows, my general advice is choose your carrier, and if BlackBerry is your choice, get the newest, biggest, fastest, top of the line model. If you can't afford that, then get the most and newest BlackBerry you can afford.

Thank you both! Sorry for the delay in replying, I have decided to get the Bold and it should be with me sometime tomorrow.
