Default How Is The Battery Life?

Please Login to Remove!

OK, so for those of you who already have the 9900, I gotta ask: how is the battery life compared to devices from the past? Presently I am using the 9700, and that battery life is legendary. How is the 9900's battery life in comparison?

So far on H+ it has not been very good. Definitely not compared to the 9700. Don't get me wrong, its not terrible. Beats a iPhone or pretty much any Android device.
I am going to let it run from a full charge on just 3G and see if it makes a big difference, I would think so.

I know that was one of the biggest concerns for RIM when they were developing the 9900, as the early devices had very poor life.

This is my biggest concern, and first rounds of feedback suggests that the battery isn't all that great. Many people reporting difficulty making it an entire day. That doesn't sound like the BlackBerry experience I remember with the 9700.

Well, get used to it, because the battery life sucks. I have 2 batteries.

Geez, if these initial reports are correct, I might as well stick with my 9700. With light to moderate use, I can go over three days on one charge. I have a sneaky suspicion that the 9900's battery life will be just like the 9000's battery life, about 20% battery life left at the end of the business day.

Chances are that the 9700 will go down in RIM's history as the best BlackBerry ever. All they need is a 9700 with a touch screen and a Curve keypad and all of us will be happy.

I've got a few peoples who's Bold 9700's don't make it an entire day. Sometimes batteries just die out over time.

I'm getting a Bold 9900 at work to replace my Torch, so we'll see how it goes.

I have been using the 9780 before this one and the battery seems to be very similar. So i dont think you guys need to worry about that too much.

It has to be expected that battery life is going to be sub par! Its a smaller batter then the original Bold's shipped with, and the 9900 packs a 1ghz processor! Smaller battery, faster processor can only mean one thing....crappy battery life! RIM has really dropped the ball lately...

RIM cannot afford to drop the ball on this one. A fatal flaw in their new flagship phone will be deadly for the company.

I agree Rambo...but with pricing like I'm reading on the Blogs, I don't se how RIM will sell many of they're new Blackberries. I mean we'll all go out and get the newest Berry. But the Average consumer is not going to spend $250 on a Blackberry, when right next to it is either an iPhone or the newest Android phone...both at roughly $199

As I write this, my 9900 is on it's 4th or 5th charge cycle. Battery life is getting better each cycle and although not as good as my 9780 is, will get much closer after a few more cycles. I'm using 50% screen brightness (screen dimming off), 10-second screen timeout, no GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth always off unless connected, all not-in-use apps shut down and no social feeds running other than BBM; same setup as on my 9780.

With heavy phone, e-mail and BBM usage...I still manage to get though a day with 40-50% battery charge left before I plug it in. I'm on a BES as well. The 1st two charge cycles were really bad - leaving the phone almost dead by day's end...but it's getting much better on each cycle. No it may never be a 9780 in terms of battery life....but it will be better than I had originally thought. I have 2 batteries and am purchasing a dual charger. This is the best BB I've ever used and battery is better than any Android/Windows device or iPhone, by far.

Sounds good so far. 40% battery life at the end of the day is certainly better than what I had expected, though there seems to be no way this will beat my 9700, which after a full day of moderate to heavy use I have about an astonishing 80% battery life remainig. However, after the tenth or so charge cycle, when the battery is fully broken in, how long will the device last on full screen power and Bluetooth?

Well, that was yesterday...now today's another story. 25% after 10 hours with maybe 35 minutes of phone and 50 e-mails/BBM's, with a few longer ones. That really sucks...add Bluetooth and you're dead. It seems the stronger the H+ signal is, the faster it drains. Today I was in the city in high coverage all day. Yesterday I drove 500 miles through lower coverage areas, still always H+ and it did far better. This is contrary to what should be. I'm guessing it's f/w related, being early f/w releases...but battery life is very very poor for a BB, seemingly.

Darn it! I think we need to a side-by-side comparison between the 9000 and the 9900 in terms of battery life. Given the 9900's new features, what good are they if you don't have the power to run them?

I'll stick with my 9700 until more of you guinea pigs report in on the 9900.

I've now had my first BB for a few months now. I like it. Really like it. I've had two iPhones and Droid prior, so, I have something to compare to. I like my BB for different reasons I liked my iPhones. A big one is functionality. But if you don't have a device with a proper battery to give you that functionality, then it's no longer functional, is it?

RIM missed here. There is no reason in the middle of 2011, a smartphone does not have an auto-focused lens. There is also no front-facing camera. Now, many of us here may not have a need for a front-facing camera, but, those buying Droids and iPhones are not going to buy a phone that's more expensive without one. Sure, the keyboard may be great, but, as far as a multi-media device, it should have had those things. Yes, it has NFC, but that won't be enough to win over those droid guys.

Just my $.02 as a user from the other big two...and, no, now I'm not so sad I bought my 9650 when I did. It lasts me two days with a charge and I can take all the pics I want in focus and was half the price. I was really hoping this new model was going to hit it out of the park. I want RIM to succeed. It's good for us consumers to have market competition. I just hope they'll have another chance to correct their newest mistake.

Wait a second, did I understand here that the 9900's camera is not auto focus? By that I mean pressing the right convenience key halfway down to focus. I find it hard to believe that the 9900 has no auto focus. Is there or isn't there?

I want more of you guys to report in on the 9900's battery life. This is a crucial issue.

Cameras on the 9900/9930 are EDoF, no auto focus.

Battery Life on .291 has been fantastic.

I have a few apps open all day, about an hour or two of phone calls and I am BBMing all day long. I am almost getting 11 hours of juice, a little less with Wikitude open all the time.

I'm sure not everyone may agree, but I for one would gladly give up the thinness for a longer battery. My 9650 does not feel all that big, even after carrying around an iPhone for years. BlackBerry's market is largely function and security, not style. Correct me if I'm wrong. Who cares if it's a few mm thicker? Does it function the way you want it to? Does if last all day and still have some reserve in the tank? If the answer is "yes" to both, BlackBerry will sell that device.

I feel they put too much emphasis on, "The thinnest BlackBerry yet" campaign and forgot it's target audience's needs.

Coming from an Android device (Thunderbolt) the battery life on the BB will be like a lifetime to me.

My thunderbolt is 50% by noon with minimal use.
