Wirelessly posted (Hope is everything)

What does she need the device to do primarily?
That will help us to help you.

Blackberry greatest strength is email management. Generally they are considered excellent phones.

Sounds like your wife would not be using for work email (correct?), so it would mainly be to get personal email, and for use as a phone.

Some people prefer the Curve/Bold style keyboard, and others swear by the Sure Type predictive text keyboard of the Pearl. Others also prefer the smaller candybar form factor of the Pearl. As a web browsing device, I think most people will agree that an iPhone is better (some will disagree).

It really depends on what your wife really intends to use the device for - Phone - minutes/month?
e-mail - work/personal?
Web browsing important?
Synchronization with a work or home computer?
GPS required?
Applications?
WiFi capability important?
Budget - willing to spend more than regular phone? (some people aren't)

Just a few things to consider

We dont (currently) have her on a data plan, so email and web is not really a concern. mostly, calls and texting. I'm concerned about the usability factor. I dont feel that the BlackJack (samsung) is as user friendly as it needs to be for her with Att/Samsung blackjacks take on WinMobile 6.

so: for texting, and calls. would the Blackberry be better?

If you talk to your wife and answer the questions in Auroraboy's post up there, then the next step is selecting either the right Blackberry (there are many configurations of Blackberries) or some other phone for her.

Is browsing the internet on a hand held device something that she likes to do? Then Storm might be the best choice. ... etc..

Good luck, have fun.

If just phone calls and SMS texting, I would simply go with a Blackberry Pearl - small candybar form factor, Sure Type predictive text, and more traditional style keypad for making phone calls. Try the Buy and Sell forum here, and pick one up here without a huge $ investment.

I'm actually considering the Pantech Matrix for my wife. It's a simple (AT&T standard) interface and is a dual slider. She just wants to be able to text and hates predictive text. She wants a full keyboard.

Matrix is an okay phone. When I was working for att we saw about a 20% return rate for the matrix

The BB makes a good phone imho, and is good for text but if she wants pic/video messaging she will need a proper BB plan.

The blackjack2 which I have used is not so good of a phone

I do agree that she should be consulted, but I'm the "pre shopper" she is not the type to just go in and pick one out unfortunatly. I've got to research some good options first. the Blackjack does not have some of the features that my Motorola Q had (on Verizon), so I'm not sure if it's a good fit for her as it seems even less functional than the Verzon version of the Q.

She would like to sync with her (work) laptop, and we have the ability to install what ever softwear is needed. we are on an ATT plan with unlim SMS amd MMS. trying to get a feel for:
A: is a Blackberry a better choice than the Blackjack
B: if so, then which. cost wise, the Bold is a little higher than we'd like to be at, the Curve or Pearl would be better. and ATT does not offer the Storm.

If She already got the Blackjack, I would say she made the decision. Also can you even return it to get a BB?

We just went to AT&T on Friday, so we've got 30 days.
I'm not sure she's thrilled with how the blkjck works. Wondering if she'd be happier with a bbry instead of the blkjck.
