SMS is a phone application. I don't think you can download them anyplace or view them anywhere other than on the device. i am sure the carriers can do it, but I would assume you would need a pretty good reason to get them to provide that function/feature.

like download to my laptop and then be able to view them in text format or something. i know you can backup them up via the bb desktop manager, so just wondering if there was a way to view them all in an application.

After you use BlackBerry Desktop Manager to do a backup, you can use a software on your computer such as ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter to open the IPD file from the backup and view the messages.

Works great. The free version and the paid version will read the data. And allow you to export up to 10 records. The paid version allows you export/convert all the data.

If you are using a Mac give Missing Sync for BB a try from Mark/Space found here Sync Software for Mobile Smartphones to Mac OS X, Windows XP and Windows Vista - Sync Mac and PC! . I use it instead of the DM RIM offers.
