Default Woes using Pearl as modem

Please Login to Remove!

I am currently using my pearl as a modem for my laptop. I am finding that every few minutes I have to manually disconnect and reconnect my connection to have internet access. So my question is: How do I establish a constant connection? It seems as if the edge connection goes into some type of idle mode? Anyone else having this problem?

It happens to me every once in a great while. For the most part, the connection stays solid. I'm using it right now to connect to the forum.

That is odd.......I have full edge service showing too. So not sure of any setting I'm missing?

I assume you have your APN set to wap.voicestream.com, right?

Also, I see you're using .69. Try upgrading to .71.

Status of the modem shows connection but for some reason it just stops allowing me to establish an internet connection! Very frustrating!

Try using a weather or stock program in the background that pings for updates every few minutes. That might keep the connection active.

Is the connection supposed to be lost when you receive an email or text message? That happens as well?

Does it matter if I have Desktop Manager opened or closed?

This is how it works: The modem uses the EDGE data network. Phone calls and sms messages use the GSM network. When you are connected to the modem, and you receive a call, the connection to the internet will be put on 'hold' while you take the call. When the call is finished, the connection to the internet will resume. It should hold the connection without making you re-dial, but sometimes the connection gets lost.

DM must be running in order for you to dial out as a modem.
