Can you walk through a sequence for me just so I can be sure of the events?

Open KeePassBB and delete the persistent store.
Make sure that the "Allow app to be reopened..." option is NOT checked.
Exit KeePassBB.
Connect via USB and synchronize.
Disconnect USB.
Open KeePassBB with the correct master password.
Exit KeePassBB
Connect via USB and synchronize again.
What happens?

Can you also try the sequence with a database created by the desktop version of KeePass instead of the PortableApp one?

@RemyJ

I followed yours steps and it seems to work once. But I did no changes ob both sides.
I tried a second time and the error is back. (and killed my db file..)

Then I started with a blank db on the BB and synced initially.
That worked. Then I did a change on the BlackBerry, closed KeepAss and re-opened it. Bang - same error.

So it seems I can't even make any changes to the db on on BB.

I tried as well with version 1.09. I copied it from the zip file to the KeePass location on the USB drive, replacing the 1.07 portable version.
That works fine with the USB drive, but same sync errors with the BB.

I cant get it to sync at all with my BB again.

I have 1.09 installed on the desktop and when I try to sync through the DM, it gives me an error to check the logs on the BB and then if I try to copy the file from my computer to the BB, i get a java.lang.NullPointerException.

I dont know what I am doing wrong.

I even created a new database with 1 entry in it and copied it over and still get the same errors.

Unhappy unable to sync via desktop manager

i really like the idea of your program and I'm sure my error can be easily fixed since so many people have reported success. here is my problem:

i have the program dl'd and installed on my bb. it was loaded w/ the app loader in the desktop manager. then i configured the addin for syncing, and pointed it to my .kdb file that is located in the program file folder for keepass. the problem is, everytime i run a sync, i get this error: "There was an error on the device, probably a bad password. Use ALT <LGLG> on the device to check the log. I cleared the log and then went through the process again to isolate any errors. I only came back with one after checking the log. I copied the text below from my BB:

Again, I'd really like to use the program and hope s/o can figure it out. Also, FYI, I don't have an SD card or internet connectivity. Does that pose a problem? If so, sucks for me.

thanks

Folks, I apologize if I haven't responded. It seems that I'm not getting notified of new posts in this thread even though I'm subscribed. If you don't get a response from me here, post your question in the forums at SourceForge.net: KeePass for BlackBerry I always get notified there.

I need to run my test suite again but I can't figure out why some have continual problems with the desktop sync and others don't. Give me a day or 2 to really dig into it.

Pjizz: you don't need an SD card or internet to make this work. I just need to figure it out. Which OS version are you running?

i have a 8300 running OS 4.2.2.166 (platform 2.4.0.73)

also, i don't know if this will signal anything to you or not, but when i first installed keepass for bb, the icon was similar to the PC version i.e. a black padlock in a blue circle. when i reinstalled, the icon changed to a black command line window.

let me know if you need anymore info, as really it is i that will benefit !

Red face so maybe we're okay here...

OKAY...so I fooled around a little bit more tonight and everything seems to be working fine. i was able to transfer my desktop database to the BB via desktop manager sync.

while i'm not too sure on the technicals as to why this helped, what i did was delete the blank database initially on the BB after the installing of keepass on the BB. i tried transferring the database again and this time it worked. for some reason when i change an entry in the desktop program, it creates a new group called "backup" with a copy of the modified entry in it.

but that's a question not really pertinent, so thanks remyj for your help and thanks for some great programming!

Never mind;

I just realized what my problem was; I don't know why I had the number of key encryption rounds set for the PC database to: 987.600 I set it to 12.000 and the problem is solved.

Smile How to install keepassBB directly on your blackberry?

Open your browser on your blackberry
than activate go to
enter the following adress on your blackberry and accept to download.

http://keepassbb.sourceforge.net/ota/keepassbb.jad

After this action KeepassBB will be installed on your BB.
How I can import my excisting .kdb database witch is installed on my home PC i still must search out. My dbase is already installed on my BB's SDcard, but import does'nt work. I just got the message retrieved when I try to import, but it doesnt work. I still searching for a solution to find out. If I find it or others kan tell me I give you the information.

Default How to instaal an excisyting dbase from your PC onto your blackberry?

I've stolen some info of an other forum user RemyJ (thank you Remy)
but I will add on te end some settings you need to use in your Blackberry Desktop manager which must be installed on your home PC.

Step1 on your BB device:

Can you walk through a sequence for me just so I can be sure of the events?

Open KeePassBB and delete the persistent store.
Make sure that the "Allow app to be reopened..." option is NOT checked.
Exit KeePassBB.

Do next steps on your home PC:

Connect via USB and synchronize (before synchronize look for settings of your BB desktop manager) .

- Open synchronize
-open configuration tab
- click "configure add-ins buttom
- Than you see normaly the checkbox named " Keepass for Blackberry. Put this box on.
- If you don't see this you did'nt install the keepass program on your home PC. (do this first -> download keepassbb-1.0.638.zip

SourceForge.net: keepassbb Project: Platform Download

and install -> this file on your desktop PC first.

- go to synchronize tab and check your "execute Add-in actions (put it on)
- Go in this screen to the "configure" buttom -> browse to the place where you can find the database .kdb which you're used to use before on your PC.
- After this push OK.
- Than go to the tab Synchronize and push "Synchronize now" buttom.
You're dbase is almost into your Blackberry now.
Look now to your blakberry screen and enter your Keepass password that you're using normally.
Hopely it works now.

Lot's of succes !

I am trying to get KeePass to work on my Pearl 8130 and I get some type of error whenever I try to create a group or an entry.

The error is:
serialize: java.lang.nullpointerexception keepass

I first loaded the keepass for blackberry onto my computer, then grabbed it OTA on the BB. I then configured a test database that has tons of passwords already it in.

I then went in on the BB and can see everything perfect, but if I add something I get the Serialize error.

Any tips on how to get past this?

I am also having a problem.

I am syncing to KeePass on Windows XP.

Every few times I sync I get an error message that says that my password is incorrect or there was a database error. My password is correct. To "resolve" this problem, I have to open the desktop version and close. Then, open the BB version and close. Once both have been opened and closed, it will sync properly if I connect the BB.

Any idea why this would happen on such a random basis? I have never changed the password, so it's the same password I've used since I installed the programs.

My personal experience is that you have to open the BB version and then it will sync. I've always rationalized it as entering the password on the handheld before being allowed to sync. Remember, if nothing else, the BB platform is all about security.

I'm sure RemyJ has the real answer though.

I've got no experience with BlackBerrys on OSX so there's no much I can suggest other than simply connecting the BB as a mass storage device and copying the file over. You can set KeePassBB to automatically open from the storage media each time.

What happens with a fresh database? Do you still get the error when adding a group or entry?

Try this...

Make a backup copy of your database.
Do the sequence you need to get it to sync.
Sync a few times in a row without opening KeePass on the desktop.
Now, open KeePass on the desktop, then immediately close it again. Make no changes.
Sync again a few times.
Now open KeePass on the desktop and make a change, then close it.
Sync again a few times.
Open KeePassBB and make a change, leaving KeePass on the desktop closed.
Sync a few times.

Let me know where it fails.
