Default Strange Memory Card Problems

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a Sandisk 8MB memory card and put it in today. When I went to put music on the device, the Media Manager (which seems to be a marginal and clunky piece of software) could not access the card.

So I formatted the card. The available space instantly was cut in half. Then I was able to put about 2 GB of music on the card and it then said that I was out of space. When I go check the card in the "media card" section it says I have 1.1 GB free. I just checked it now, and it says I have only 6.4MB free but I have not done anything since the last time I checked other than listen to some music.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!

Have you tried a battery pull when your BB is on?

What OS are you using? I think for 8 Gb you need OS 4.3.

Thanks for the welcome and quick replies. This seems like a great community.

Battery pull did not work, but it was a good suggestion. The restart did appear to result in me being sent a service book, but maybe it was random timing?

With respect to the 2nd reply, I have the OS that came with the device, which I believe is 4.2.2. I have become really interested in getting the latest OS after finding this site and reading, and I am downloading it now and will install it in the AM. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks much

Formatting the card in OS 4.2 will only give you 4GB total memory. You'll need to reformat under OS 4.5. Occasionally, that doesn't give you back your full card, though. You may need to use Windows to reformat the card.
