new MicroSD card won't show up on my iBook computer
Please Login to Remove!
I just got a new blackberry pearl 8130 with sprint. I borrowed my boyfriend's sandisk 256 mb microSD card and put it into my phone. It popped up right away under devices and I was able to transfer music onto my phone. I gave him his back and bought a Sandisk 2GB microSD card, and now nothing happens. It doesn't pop up on my computer under devices. Yes, I have all the media card settings correct - media card support, on, autoenable mass storage, on, etc. What the heck!!!!!!! It is so frustrating that using a mac and blackberry is nearly impossible!!
I have waited and waited for the device to pop up but it never does. Why would it work with the other card but not with this one? I have even returned a previous card from a different company and bought this new 2gb one just in case it was a problem with the card. But this one doesn't work either! Please help!!

So you can see it on the BB... and you can store media to the card? it just doesn't show on the MAC?
Welcome to the BBForums, also.

Well, when I insert the media card it says "media card inserted" but I am pretty sure I can't store media to it. When I open the pictures folder, only one folder comes up and that is Device Memory (the blackberry), but is that because I don't have any pictures on it? I have not figured out how to save a picture to the media card and I have tried just about everything so I am assuming it's not working in the phone either. Note the first card I used worked perfectly. Now the new ones are worthless.
I'm glad I found this forum. I feel like I'm on my own when it comes to figuring out how to use the blackberry because the manual that came with it is extremely basic and the help section on the phone is worthless.
Thank you guys!!

On the BB... UNplugged from the USB cable: Go to Camera > Menu > Options > scroll to bottom and set the pictures to save to the Media Card. Can you do that?
Also look at the Media icon > Menu > Explore. You should have two choices: Media Card and Device Memory. Do you?

Yes, I can! I went to explore in the media menu and the pictures do come up on the media card. So I have them saving to the media card and I can view them.
And yes I have two choices as to where I can save the pictures.

Good! Now make sure any that you have saved to the Device Memory are moved to the Media Card.

On my 8320, when I plug it into my iMac, the BB will display a message asking if I want to enable mass storage mode. It will not show as a drive unless I hit yes. Are you getting that message?

So you have tried three different SD cards in total? Have you tried putting your boyfriend's back in again to see if it still shows up? I really am at a loss. :\

What are you using to read the card on your Mac? What I mean is, are you using a card reader?

I'm assuming they're just plugging their blackberry in with the USB cable.

Wirelessly posted
That was my guess, too, so I was going to suggest buying a cheap card reader and SD adapter from Amazon.

No one suggested she pull the battery and do a hard reboot of the pearl? I'd try that. I thought it was a BS suggestion when I first got my pearl, but it has helped resolve a few wacky issues with this 'smart' phone.
And we didn't ask what sync'ing software you are using. I like MissingSync with my powerbook. works with both Tiger and Leopard partitions fairly well for syncing my selected iTunes playlist, addy book, iCal, and sucking camera photos into iPhoto.
