How do I make sure I still have .64 on my pc? Assuming I do, I connect pearl, open/run .103 and remove it. Does that remove it from the pearl and leave it with no OS? Then disconnect pearl, reconnect and run DM/AL and it will automatically reinstall .64 as the OS? I just wanna make sure I have the steps right to do this.

No. You can either run the OS download file again or uninstall it from Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs. Then you can connect the device and run Desktop Manager.

Is the Pearl USB 2.0 or 1.1, the only reason I ask is that it takes FOREVER to transfer music onto the pearl from my computer, and I have it connected to a USB 2.0 Card. Oh and get this a few reps at TMO BB support say if you use a card bigger than 1GB it slows the pearl down.

Welcome to the forums, burky.

The time it takes to do the update depends on how much data is on the device. Also, it takes longer if a BES activation needs to take place, as well. Glad it all went well for you. And, yes, I hope most people don't install unused languages.

Default Why delete Vendor.xml?

Pkg v4.2.1.175 app v4.2.1.107 Plt v2.3.0.83

File name: 8100M_PBr4.2.1_rel168_PL2.3.0.83_A4.2.1.107.exe

Download the OS here

Instructions for loading this OS on ANY carrier's 8100:

Instructions for installing:
(Be sure to check out TMo's installation instructions at the download site.)

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2. Download it here. (The version listed on the TMo site is quite outdated, I don't recommend using that one.)
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543 (which happens occasionally during an upgrade process,) simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device. You will lose your 3rd party apps if this happens. You can prevent this if you have a current 3rd party app "backup." Learn how to backup 3rd party apps here

Edited Blackberry.alx and LBS.alx's can be found here

(link to previous OS sticky thread click here)

Just wondering why one would need to delete the vendor.xml file?

The vendor.xml file needs to be deleted in order to install on another carrier's device. Don't worry, you lose nothing by deleteing it. You only gain the ability for Desktop Manager to load the OS to your device.

Hello;

New to the BB world, my 8100 reports that I am running 4.2.194 (Platform 2.3.0.77)

This seems newer to me than the versions listed.

Welcome to the forums hemertwv,

Your 8100 reports 4.2.1.94 not 4.2.194

The OS in this thread is newer.

Default Doesn't ALWAYS re-connect to the network...

When the older (.103 was it?) upgrade was available, I upgraded. At that point after successfully upgrading, I was having a problem with my Pearl reconnecting to the network; showing "edge" instead of "EDGE" under the signal indicator after I turn the phone off then back on again.

I've since upgraded to .107 but still the same problem, albeit less frequently than before.

Basically, what happens is when I turn-off my phone then turn it back on, everything returns to normal except my network connection is not fully complete. Signal indicator will show fine, but the "edge" will appear instead of the "EDGE."

The only way to remedy this is to turn-off then turn-on again; or for a more surefire way to remedy, a hard reboot.

Anyone else getting this?

I know, I know, most BB users don't ever turn theirs off, but I do like to get a good couple hours sleep with it completely off.

Any ideas?

I believe lowercase 'edge' means that you have the data plan (internet and email etc.). It's in the pearl manual. check it out !

elmaalouf,
Welcome to the forums....

I believe the above poster already knows what edge means. He is having trouble getting a connection to EDGE with the new software. Sometimes it can be an issue.

Default still lagging on "edge" vs. "EDGE"

john clark, thanks yes you're right --i am looking to understand what is preventing my BB from reconnecting back to the data network.

just curious if anyone is having this same issue. to date, i've not been able to find a pattern -- for example, i thought it was because i use my alarm to turn-on my BB on some days; that wasn't the problem.

i then thought it was the way in which i turned-off my BB; whether by holding the end key or by scrolling to "turn off." still, no consistency.

so i'm back to square one. i've even left it to sit, on, with the "edge" and it hasn't remedied itself.

it's a small nuisance but something i'd love to get rid of if it is, indeed, a bug.

HELP! thanks!

oh and PS: elmaalouf, i know you were trying to help and youre right; that information is in the manual, but i do know what the lower case "edge" means vs. the upper case "EDGE." thanks anyway

Have you tried removing the battery and sim card and then rebooting? If you still have problems you should give TMo a call.

Default issues with 107 ???

Hi folks, upgraded from .71 to .107 - everything went smoothly, thanks to John Clark - great post.

Here are my observed issues.

1. Seem to have some weird font issue - can't get back to my previous font - everything seems to be in italics for some weird reason and text is really tight- tried various options - just can't get back to what I had. Sadly, I appear to have lost the bold feature on new received emails (unopened)

2. Pearly (ball) seems to be slower than before, especially when selecting items - slight 2 seconds delay

3. Have lost my playlist in MultiPay - don't really know why, can't sem to rebuild it either ( I backed up everything along with 3rd party apps and reinstalled)

4. strangely, my old emails kept in the inbox all reappeared as new following the upgrade rather than keeping their original received date.

Tha's it for now. Might be longing for my old .71 os

Are you referring to the download page for the TMobile 8100 OS update in the first post? I just clicked on it and it went right though.

Yes, It's just stuck on this page, so is there any alternate site or another place I can download it from?
