i went through all the steps above and the tech just told me to call RIM which is PHYSICALLY impossible if you dont have a PAID tech support account....this is ABSOLUTELY insane!

UPDATE:
talked to someone at RIM, they told me that its insane that verizon had me call them, they need to be logging all these complaints and forwarding them to the right internal people at RIM!

DO NOT CALL RIM...keep calling verizon!

I did see a device software upgrade on vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry for the 8830 that's dated 5/31/2007.

Has anyone tried this out to see if it fixes the problem? I'm considering going to an 8830 but will go for the 8703e if need be.

Thumbs down

Alas, RIM will take care of BES related issues, they will refer you to your carrier if it's a device issue which I think stinks if the RIM software is at fault.

Default Ringer Low

I have posted to this form earlier in regards to this LOW RINGER issue. I did just call this # to complain, an I already switched back to my 7250. The tech claimed to have never heard of this problem, but did tell me that Verizon is working on the Outlook Duplication Calender bug. Good Luck to All....

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 8703e is not much better, I've had both phones and even with the volumes set to high in the "loud" profile, the ringer volumes are pathetic compared to ANY phone I've ever owned. Best bet is to just pair with a Jabra 250v or 500v so that the headset vbrates in your pocket, only way you going to know a call is coming unfortunately.

Are you kidding me? The 8703 ringer is EXTREMELY loud! It's so loud I am embarassed to have it on as loud as it can go. Unless you are downloading mp3 ringtones etc. you shouldn't have any problems. BB is designed for business. If you are downloading the latest hip hop song, go buy a Treo or iPhone.

Maybe there are different versions of 8703e. I had one from earlier this year, and now have my 8830. There was almost no maximum volume difference for ringers between the two units I had. Or maybe I had a "quiet" 8703e. With the louder mp3 ringer I now have (classic ringer...no hip hop), my 8830 is plenty loud and louder than my 8703e.

Default Voice Mail Alert

Has anyone figured out how to turn off the voice mail alert? I get 10 back door voicemails a day which I don't need to be notified of. It seems to be using the same ringer as the sms alert. Obviously I don't want to turn the sms alert off.

Not sure if this will help but when I bought my 8830, I was disappointed with the volume too. After playing around with it, I found a way to increase the volume.

Most of you may know how to do this and maybe you have and the volume is still low but for the ones that have not tried it, do this:

From the main menu, go into "profiles" (speaker icon), in profiles, scroll down to "Advanced". Now in here you can create another profile or edit an existing one, I edited the "Normal" one. Highlight the Normal one, press the menu button (button right next to the green phone) and select "Edit". After clicking on edit you'll see another menu come up. Scroll down to "phone" and select it. You will then see all the options you can change for the phone. Set the Volume to High and I found the "Ringer_BBpro_1" ringer to be loud. make sure you change the option for "In holster" also right below. You can also change all the notifications such as SMS Text, Messenger, etc once your done with the phone.

Again, this is my first time owning a blackberry so if everyone knows about this menu, then feel free to ignore this post

Why are you assuming I am downloading hip hop songs? For your information, I am not downloading any mp3's period as this for is for "business" not for impressing anyone who can see my new phone. Don't be so quick to assume. The 8830/8703e volume sucks, you may have lucked out with yours. I am not the only one who feels this way as there are alot of ringer and even vibrate complaints. My 8703e was alot better with ringer and volume, but compared to a regular voice phone it was not up to par. And as a business tool, it is imperative that you are able to know you have calls coming in.

Verizon fix to that is the rolling out of VZ Navigator to smartphones. Not the best solution for us, but I've used it on my voice phones and it has done good so far when using it to travel 500+ miles.

I did this and it seems to make my phone plenty loud while I sit in my living room. I agree there is a problem with the ring volume, however I think following the above directions is no different that changing the selection in the "Profiles" menu.

THanks though.

Does anyone know how to turn off the touch tones? PLEASE?!?! Loud touch tones during quiet and vibrate modes is the most illogical thing I've ever experienced (aside from having an inaudible ringer on a PHONE)!

So what are they going to do about it? Anything... Did they say they are going to up the volume with a software/firmware patch?

Default They know...

I took my 8830 in to a VZW store in NYC yesterday. The tech support folks know about the problem but have no solution (big help - she set the vibrate to 3X ) I have gone to a "quiet ring" when it's out of the holster - I can generally feel it vibrate in holster on my belt (worn horizontally).
