Default Do you backup your database? SQL or MSDE

Please Login to Remove!

I do everynight, I hear some do it every 6 hours. I also hear some people do this because they never did.

Thing is, you can schedule them regardless of what the DB system is, so you have to really worry about anyone who just does them manually as and when.....

Yeah, I suspected as much. But I don't know a thing about MSDE, and the SQL guy wouldn't touch it unless it was on a SQL box.

Long, long ago I used to do manual MSDE backups.

Backup daily to a file which is then FTP'd to our file server, all via script and windows Task Scheduler, which is backed up to tape overnight.

I use this:

Free SQL Server database backup, Zip and FTP software

It backs up, ftps and sends email success/failure reports.

I do it daily - used to use Backup Exec but we're using SQL Express 2008 and the BE agent doesn't support it for this version.

I just got a batch file that Backups up the 3 database, MDSS, BESMGMT, MDSS_DIS, along with the BES folder including the State DB's and etc.. Then the Batch file copies it to a network drive...

(One of these days I will add some compression in there, to make the file transfer easier...)

I had a backup fail on 10D and now use SQL to backup to flat file instead.
What a waste of money for the SQL connector.

We have an operations department that handles backups and such. The database is on our main SQL server and all the databases get backed up each night.

Thanks - I write batch scripts for almost everything I do but when I found this that literally does everything I need it to do, I was hooked.
