Default Question: AT&T adding a BB data plan.

So we know that if you use a BlackBerry on AT&T and don't have a BB data plan AT&T will periodically scan for ESN's and simply add the BB data plan to any account without one.

What would happen if somebody bought a used BlackBerry that was still registered to a BIS account with another carrier? You could pop your SIM card into it and use it for voice and sms. AT&T would eventually detect it as a BlackBerry without a data plan and attempt to add one. But the device won't be able to be registered on the AT&T BB data plan because of the prior BIS registration. How would AT&T handle this?

They'd still add the data plan. They don't give a crap if you can't use it. All they want is to bill you.

Yeah, I think that they would add the data plan based upon the IMEI of the device being active in the system. I don't think that the fact that the PIN wasn't "clear" would change this.

So you'd have the BB data plan on your account and be billed for it, but you wouldn't be able to use it.

Got it. I thought this might be a way for folks who want a BlackBerry on AT&T without the data plan to use it simply for voice and text. A loophole. But no, it's not happening.

When AT&T finds the IMEI identified as a BB or smartphone, and it is not associated with the correct data plan, they will add it. Took 26 minutes to find it on my 9000 when I brought it up to test.
