How is the signal strength in your area.

When you hit alt+esc what applications are showing?

Another possible cause someone else said is using a picture on the media card as the Home Screen background. When you do that, the handheld accesses the media card when Home Screen shows. Be sure to put Home Screen backgrounds on device memory.

Thanks for that. Was wondering why my battery life was poor.

My fully charged Bold yesterday lasted 14 hours. There was one phone call and Wi-Fi was only turned on for a few minutes.

I was on charger all night and this morning it was only at 85%

Carrier is AT&T.

Strange, I guess battery performance differs no matter what.

I have a 14 work hour day, IT consultant/systems admin.

I put my phone on the charger at 10pm every night and I have a full charge when I leave in the morning at 7am.

I have at least 12 apps running the the background at all times. These include IM apps (googletalk/WLM/Yahoo! Messenger/BBM), Google Maps, Viigo, Web browser, Gmail, plus I have my wifi activated and which I then connect to my wifi network once I get into office.
I'm on EDGE/3G throughout the day.
I send/receive at least 80 e-mails a day, plus a make/receive at least 15 calls a day and I never have to place my Bold back on the charger until I get back home at 9pm.

I'm down to about 5% by then, but I'm still good.

I'm using .282 now and I had the same great performance with .247.

I am doing pretty much the same.

I am an at&t store manager so I am always on my phone showing customer my apps and such.

In any given day I am working a 7-9 hour shift
I make about 10-15 calls
Send/Receive about 30+ emails
Send/Receive about 40+ SMS/MMS texts
Send/Receive about 10+ BBM
Facebook 10+ messages

Aps running are as follows:
Weathereye, Youmail, BBM, Facebook, Viigo, Telnav, googlemaps, slacker radio...

With all of the above I make it through my day with about 5ish% battery left. After my day is over I have a 30 minute ride home, Yeah for the car charger!

I am using .282 and was using .247 prior to that.

When you are done switching OS's, if you are still having such bad issues you may want to call carrier and do a warrenty swap.

1) Upgrade OS.
2) Make sure your Bluetooth is turned off unless in use.
3) Make sure your wifi is disabled unless in use.
4) Make sure all applications that are not being used are closed.
5) If you're in an area with no signal strength either charge the phone or turn it off.

I found that my battery performance dropped SIGNIFICANTLY when I began using the YouMail client. It polls every few minutes and I could barely get to 2pm when it was installed. Now (without it installed) I can easily get through a full day of heavy use without a charge during the workday.

Just taking it off topic slightly, when I hit alt & esc I see a load of apps running. I always hit the menu button and scroll to the bottom and hit close but even then they are still running when checking.

How do you stop apps running as even though I get throug ha whole day with no battery issues it would be good to know as I have a few trips coming up shortly

there are 5 apps that always run and cannot be shut down completely.
home screen, phone, browser (but when closing make sure you do close and not leave on an active web page), messages and BB messenger.

Turning off 3G service made a huge difference for me with the .282 software. I previously tried every other suggestion but this made the biggest difference.

I forgot about this one, but yes, I have heard this from numerous people.

How can I move the a photo from the media card to the device memory? I can't seem to do it on the bb itself.

Update: nvm...I found it.

you go to media.
select a picture.
click menu - move.
then go to "up" and click.
then chose device memory.
and scroll to move here
and click.

done.

Jarrod, are you using a photo stored on your media card as a background wallpaper? or are you using a wallpaper that is stored on the bb memory.

Someone suggested that if the photo being used as wallpaper is stored on the media card, then the battery life will be affected as the photo is being constantly retrieved.

I have moved the photo that I am using as my wallpaper...to the bb memory. I will test to see if my batter lasts longer.

My wallpaper is on the media card and i find my battery is no different.
I think that the whole pic on media card thing only really applies if the file size of the pic is large.
mine is tiny and so makes no difference.

My wallpaper is on my phones memory...

Here are a few other tips. Keep in mind I posted this thread on weeks after Bold launch, everything in there still applies but more should be added when I can.
