The 9500 could be. I don't know if it is called the Storm or if the 9530 is called the Storm. There will be a GSM touchscreen BB that will be able to be used on AT&T at some point.

Will the Storm (Verizon's new Touchscreen) use a SIM card?

Wirelessly posted (Breaking Ball)
Yes, and it can potentially be unlocked for use on North American GSM networks.

YES!!! I was very happy to see the Bold but once I took a look at the Storm I was ready to get that, but I don't want to leave AT&T because it is free for me. I have been long wanting a touchscreen/iPhone-like device but with the BlackBerry OS. THIS IS MY CHANCE!

Yes. You can purchase the 9500 and use it on AT&T's EDGE and 3G network.

I don't think you can purchase the VZW CDMA version of the Storm and use it on ATT's 3G network. You won't get 3G, only you will get EDGE speeds. I believe the VZW's Storm GSM side supports ATT's 3G frequency. I believe if you buy the Vodafone version of the Storm you will be able to unlock it and use 3G.
So to sum it up, if you don't care about 3G speeds and would settle for EDGE speeds, then go with the VZW version of the Storm unlocked. And if 3G does matter to you, go with the Vodafone version.

I'm not talking about Verizon's 9530, I'm talking about the 9500 that Vodafone and Rogers will have. The 9500 will work on AT&T's EDGE and 3G network.

Also, the Verizon 9530 will work on AT&T. Just EDGE. GSM/UMTS is listed in the network settings. When you click on GSM/UMTS it searches for AT&T's network, finds it, and then asks to put in SIM card.

I am eager to hear everyone's thoughts on this once it hits the street. I just might have to pick one up to play around with.

VZWs 9530 WILL work on AT&T, but only the 3g network for data, no voice or 2g services. The 9500 will work just fine on AT&T.

Nope, you go that backwards. It will work on EDGE but not on AT&T's 3G Network.

It actually only supports 2100mhz 3G, and EDGE wont work in this country (same as 8830). Just took a look at the docs on it. The VZW wont work, and it appears the 9500 wont either.

9530: EVDO Rev A: ( 1900/800 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
UTMS/HSDPA/HSUPA: 2100MHZ
9500: HSDPA/UMTS (2100/1900/850 MHz)
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
The 9500 will 100% work on Rogers & AT&T and their 3G networks.
The 9530 will work on Rogers & AT&T's EDGE not their 3G networks.

Interesting. The docs I have do not differentiate this. It lists the 9500 and the 9530 specs the same. The 9530 shouldnt work on EDGE in this country (as the 8830 does not as well).

But this is different than the 8830. It's a hybrid. But those are the specs for the 9530 & 9500. As I posted, the 9530's Network settings on the actual device have GSM/UMTS as one of the settings. If you select that option it searches for the network and it found AT&T and said insert sim. Also, the 9500 100% works on AT&T & Rogers. And the 9500 is GSM only. I tried to tell everyone that, but they didn't believe me until Michael broke the spyshot in BB News. So you can get the 9500 and it work on Rogers, AT&T and their 3G networks or get the 9530 for EDGE.

If you look at the full Power Point you'll see it says quad band GSM for 9530

Do you have the VZW 9530 or the Telus/Bell version? Different carriers lock down different features. For instance, AT&T doesnt allow searching of networks, while T-Mobile does.

I have the 9500(Vodafone/Rogers version), but know a Verizon Engineer. They just got their models today, and he called and told me how surprised he was that he could pop in a AT&T sim card and make a call or use data.

Prerelease models may or may not be locked down completely. I am happy to hear this particular bit of information, but doubt seriously VZW will let it slide.

The VZW 9530 will be Quad Band GSM where as the 8830 is only Dual Band (lacks North American frequencies)
Verizon is loosening up... Same with the GPS restrictions....
