Default Activation stalled 11% Firmware issue??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I'm having an odd problem.

I'm trying to activate an 8310 (4.2.2.176).
The activation process starts.
It stops working at the Calendar.
On the display it says "Calendar finished"
And below the entries "Email Filters,Email Settings, Quick Contacts, Spell Check Options" with the status initializing.

Calendar is working fine, as well message prepopulation was working and sending and receiving mails is working. But the activation is not running through.

I rebooted the server several times already and have the latest device.xml in place.
Reinstalled MS-XML Parser SP2....and all this stuff RIM is recommending...
As well I tried activating via cable, same problem.
On the Blackberry Manager the status of the user is changing from initalizing tu running and the device pin is shown as well. The device type is not shown on the Blackberry Manager....

I ereased the device several times already. Deleted the user from BES and added it back. No luck.

If I take an 8800 or even older device activation runs through within 15 minutes.

I have already activated some 8310 in the company here. So somehow it stopped working and I don't know why!

It's not only with this 8310 device I have 3 8820 devices having the same issue in Belgium, which are hosted on our Servers in Germany.

I have a ticket at Vodafone. But didn't get any feedback so far

To me it really seems that this is somehow a Firmware issue with 4.2.2

Any comments on that???

Default Not a BES admin, just a newbie.

I'm not an admin, just a newbie user, but I'm having the same issue. My BES admin is stumped too. This is my 4th or 5th attempt at enterprise activation with my employer's Groupwise server.

I have a consumer T-Mobile 8320, stuck at 94% for almost a full 24 hours, in the process of initializing the Address Book. But in the meantime, all of my tasks, emails, calendar items, address book contacts have been available and synching nicely, as far as I can tell. It's really strange.

Under Options/Advanced options/Enterprise Activation, it says "status: not activated." Under Address Book/Options, I do not have the option to wireless sync. Yet I can still look up contacts in the officewide directory. Once I cancel activation, there is no more synching tasks and calendar items, but the officewide directory is still there using the "lookup" function. Plus, I still get enterprise email on the Curve. But I really need the calendar and tasks to work. Any ideas?

Jensel

If your're really desparate to get a device working for a boss, then do a 'wired activation' - bit retro but it buys you time to resolve the wireless activation.

I have seen calendar created EA failures where the calendar event had odd entries in the main body of the calendar item - i.e. below where you set the date/time re-occurrence. This can happen if you drag an email onto the calendar icon and the calendar entry pre-populates with details from the mail. I often use this for meetings where I haven't been sent a meeting invite...perhaps this might be the issue, but I'm not sure how you check x hundred calendar items to find the dodgy one...

Yes - it's a consumer device and one would assume a consumer tariff plan. You need to be on the full BES or Enterprise plan for Enterprise activation and the device to work properly...

If the first T-Mobile c/s droid says it's on Blackberry - shout louder..most of them have never heard of the difference between enterprise and consumer plans...

Thanks so much for the reply. (And sorry to the OP; not trying to hijack the thread or anything.)

I'm definitely on full BES. I guess I should have mentioned in my original (long) post that everything was working fine before I upgraded to the latest 8320 os, .180, and had to do a new enterprise activation. Guess I'm headed to that thread to post as well . . .

Are you using the Memos and Tasks features on the BB? I've had a few BBs that wouldn't get finish activating. Submitted a few logs to RIM support and they said it was stuck on either tasks or memo. Disabled syncronization for those before activating and it went through fine.

I never went back RIM to find a root cause as our users didnt' care about the memo or tasks feature.

Default Memo store is corrupt

Do an EXMERGE on the mailbox, delete the mailbox then recreate it (in Exchange).

We had a corrupt exchange database, after a brick layer restore none of our Blackberries would complete OTA.

Try this (if you can)

1. Remove user from BES
2. EXMERGE users mailbox
3. Delete Mailbox from Exchange
4. Recreate mailbox
5. Populate new mailbox with EXMERGE data
6. Add user to BES
7. Activate Device.

RIM couldn't figure out our issue, I decided to try this and it worked..... It's a stupid way of doing it but it works.

Default Thanks, jnetter.

I'll suggest this to my BES admin on Monday. But I'm thinking I'll just wait (hopefully not too long) for OS 4.3, then try again.

Try to run Outlook /RESETFOLDERS from a command line and connect to that mailbox, it may well fix your 11% problem. Also, for the guy who turned off memopad synch, thats a band-aid, resetfolders is a fix.

We have had to do that for any users in our environment that came thru an Exchange migration 4 years ago where the Notes folder did not have the correct GUID, this fixes it. RIM couldn't tell me that, i figured it out on my own.

its a nice quick fix though.

Since you're running Domino, this might be what you are experiencing. I had some BlackBerry devices freak out during activation when it reached the calendar or when a certain date was accessed on the calendar after activation.

If your Notes Admin has created a custom database using the Import Holiday template, those entries are causing the freeze. Workaround for us? Update everybody's mail template to Notes6+. (All of this started when the server was Domino6 and the clients were Notes5.) In some cases, I also changed all of the custom created "anniversaries" on the Notes calendar to "reminders." No more freezing.

Dunno if it's really what's going on, but it's a start.

Thanks for the info. These problems started after migrating from exchange 2000 to 2003. I'll try this next time.

Dear all,

thanks for your input!! Issue solved!!

And I was right...something different in Firmware 4.2.2 is syncronized... to the server....
"Location Based Services" was the reason for it.

The SQL Table "SyncLBS" was broken and I had to recreate the table.

Now it works again...bloody stuff!!

I'm going to have a beer now!! Cheers!

This maybe of some help but this happens a lot to me when i activate our devices for our brokers.
As said previously it seems as though the calendar sync completes and then it does nothing more.

In my case this sticking at 11% has been down to users contacts in that they either contain a corrupt contact entry or it contains contact subfolders which BES does not seem to like.

1st of all if they have subfolders under contacts i will get rid of those if they dont then its probably down to a corrupt contact entry (vcards, or business card scanners into outlook) which is a pain as it requires you to move all contacts to a personal folder activate device and then copy them all back in blocks of 20 to see if you can find the culprit.
