I'm new to this so please understand. If a newer software is available for a different carrier...could you download that?

The latest released version can be found here - http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...0-76-bell.html

Follow the instructions to the letter.

There are unconfirmed rumors that Verizon will be issuing a new version soon. Of course, no one knows when that will be.

I don't recommend doing an OS upgrade just because there is a newer version available, especially if you are new to BBs.

Get to know the device first. Learn what it can and cannot do and make sure it fits what you need. You may find that the things works great for you and there is really no need to go to the newer OS. Generally, a minor release fixes a few bugs that may or may not affect your device and how you use it. By reading the threads here, you can also see that new releases can screw up things rather than "fix" them.

As an example, I had a BB 8800 for about 2 years or so. Upgraded from OS 4.1 to 4.2 for some reason. 4.1 wouldn't do something I needed/wanted to do. After that it worked just the way I wanted so there was no need to go to 4.5 when that came out. Nothing was broken, so there was no need to fix it.

dawiz asked for the latest Verizon OS. you're referencing .76. which is Bell's last official release.

i used .76 on tmobile and found it stable with the 9530. not sure how it would perform with verizon's network...

There should be more post like this here. If it's not broke don't "TRY" to fix it .... Waiting on the flames to start

this is very true and applies to everyone...

but i've had much success in the past with upgrading OS's on my blackberries....u just have to kno what ur doing and be sure of what you're installing.

for example: i just installed the .122 Hybrid 3.5.1 by BBCrackman (blackberryos.com), and the past few hours have been very smooth....

If you wanted HTML emails it would've been a damn good reason to upgrade. Blackberry's are so much better with that feature IMHO.

That is my opinion and I will stick with it. To upgrade for the heck of it just doesn't make sense to me. If your device works the way you want it to work, then leave it be and get some work done!

Maybe, maybe not. Depends upon what negative things the OS did that outweighed the html email. IMHO, html email isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I was happy with my 8800 as it was.
