Default BESX5 and DST 2010 Issues

Please Login to Remove!

I'm running BESX 5.0.1.4 and I've just had a staff member point out to me that if they add an appointment in December 2010 (well after DST starts in Australia) on their BB it jumps forward an hour once it sync's with the BSEX (and Exchange).

When I'm looking at Outlook and do the same thing (add an appointment on a BB) Outlook adds it an hour later so it looks as though Exchange or BSEX is trying to compensate for future DST even though we are now not in DST. This is happening on all our devices.

However if I add an appointment in Outlook the appointment stays at the correct time and sync's to the BB's with the correct time, so it's only an issue when appointments are added on a BB.

Doesn't anyone know about this error or where I can get some info to resolve it?

Most likely the CDO.DLL you have registered is incorrect, or you have to edit your zone on BES.

What CDO.DLL versionare you running on BES?
What version of Exchange are you running?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm running CDO.DLL verion 6.5.8039.0.
Running Exchange 2007 SP1 (8.01.0340.000)

The time zone on the BSEX server looks to be set correct with "auto adjust for daylight savings" selected.

What's the latest CDO.dll version that I should be using and where do I find it?

Thanks for the links.

All done (even if it was a little painful - the MAPI msi wont over right an existing MAPI install folder in Program Files, but I got it sorted out and running with the new CDO.dll file).

Unfortunately the problem still exists, do you have an option 2?

Only new appointments add by a Blackberry device. Anything added in Outlook works with no issue, and existing appointments aren't affected.

after starting services again did you look at
In the BlackBerry Messaging Agent logs, verify the following [ENV] environment variables are reported:
[ENV] MAPI32.DLL: C:\Windows\System32\MAPI32.DLL, Version: ?
[ENV] CDO.DLL: C:\Program Files\ExchangeMAPI\\ Version: CDO.DLL, ?
[ENV] EMSMDB32.DLL: C:\Program Files\ExchangeMAPI\ EMSMDB32.DLL, Version: ?

what version do they show?

ENV] CDO.DLL: C:\Program Files\ExchangeMapi\cdo.dll, Version: 6.5.8153.0
[ENV] Loaded EMSMDB32.DLL: C:\Program Files\ExchangeMapi\EMSMDB32.DLL, Version: 6.5.8153.0

...which seem to be correct as per the correct DLL versions that I updated, is there anything else I should check?

Are any other BES Admin's experiencing this issue with BES 5 or BESX 5?
I'm also running Exchange 2007 and the BES on MS Server 2003 R2.

What timezone have you set on your BB device? Also, try to switch off "Auto Update Time Zone" for the moment.

+10GMT is the time zone on the devices and also on the BES server and also on the Domain Controller.

I tried turning off the Auto Update Time Zone but still get the same issue with the appointment jumping forward an hour.

This is really starting to be a pain in the butt. This issue didn't exist before we moved to BESX 5. Is anyone else on BESX 5 experiencing this problem?

Have you checked for the latest Microsoft and Blackberry DST patches on:

2010 DST updates Exchange Windows and Blackberry

Also check that your device software has the latest DST changes. Obviously some states in Australia have DST, others not, so it might be important to set the correct GMT+10 Time Zone (Canberry, Sydney or Brisbane). See:

Yep I've already applied the BB updates to handsets, update to the latest CDO on the BESX and also applied all the DST updates to the Exchange server and BESX server........but the issue still exists.

I've also since applied SP2 to BESX5.

I have now narrowed down the problem a little further, it happens to any appointment you try and schedule from the handset after the 2nd November.

Is there anyone else in Australia having this issue? Or anyone with any other idea's? This is really starting to p-off employee's.

I finally found the solution after lots of pulling my hair out.

As per this post over on BB forums:
BES Express - calendar sync not working properly - BlackBerry Support Community Forums

It resolves the issue, even though it is for an old CDO and pre BESX5 and my issue was appointments moving FORWARD in time it worked.......THANK GOODNESS.

Thanks to all that tried and offered solutions.

Good to hear that, but which of the solutions in the other forum worked?

reverting to the CDO version is this KB might help for Exchange 2007.

KB15702-Calendar appointments appear one hour earlier in Microsoft Outlook when creating or updating a calendar item from the BlackBerry smartphone using the Canberra Sydney time zone
