Default OS 9700 : 5.0.0.994/5.0.0.586 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Package Version: 5.0.0.994
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.586
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.146
* File name: 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel994_PL5.1.0.146_A5.0.0.586_COSMO TE.exe
* File size: 131.94MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software : https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3779A17ADF1707

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

From what I can read in the beta forum, this one seems to solve all the problems of .566 and is definitely better than .545!

I am seeing this as my rock solid stable OS version

Default Any difference between this and leaked beta?

Are there any differences between this official version, and the leaked beta of .586 that came out a few days ago? I see the file sizes are slightly different.

Tried to replacing all with data from computer, and a battery pull. No luck.

So far, this does appear to be a very solid release... no apparent issues to this point... battery life is good, and I am happy... of course, a new leak surfaced this morning, too... just after I did the install... but staying put here for a few days at least.

So far so good. I think I'll stay with this one for a while as I'm tired of having to re-enter some third party app info (at least until the next update is available)

.593 is out there and fixes some bugs...specifically, the one where the message app freezes when you delete multiple sms threads from the message list. That was a nasty one.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Plug it back in. Run application loader again and check the box for documents to go.

I lied... last night I loaded the leaked .593 (.586 lasted less than 12 hours before being upgraded again...tired of the 3rd party app config that is required with OS upgrade)... but it's all good!

How did you install this? Was it an auto update through Desktop Manager? If so, just follow the instructions in the first post of this thread and you should be able to add back the docs to go.

Sounds like a 3rd party app causing your battery issues. I've heard no complaints of battery issues thus far.

I agree... the battery life seems to improve with each iteration of the OS... look for either an app draining it the battery... OR you're sitting on the edge (no pun intended) of a 3G area, and the BB is searching for a 3G signal... IHMO.
