Default Problems after .282 and my apps ??

Please Login to Remove!

I'm just wondering why after upgrading I lost all my registration keys for my apps when I changed from .162 to .282. I had to re-register all of my software. I even reloaded from a recent backup and it didnt' reload my keys.

It even wiped out my entries in mysecret diary.

Any help would be appreciated if I recover some of this stuff.

Re-registering all 3rd party applications (with the exception of about 3 that I know of) is a routine part of an OS upgrade. Most 3rd party apps store their data in a database that is not restored during an OS upgrade. This database also tends to fill up with a lot of junk every time you install and delete an application.

I have upgraded OS's 8 - 10 times on my current device, about the same on my previous device. And I have 61 installed 3rd party applications, so believe me I am aware of the hassle. However, each time I do an upgrade, I recover the memory that was taken up by the user settings database (whatever it may be called) even after re-inputting all my keys and settings. I have it down to a routine now, after an OS upgrade, it takes me a couple hours to get back to where I was (which I consider pretty good actually).

It's all part of the process. In truth, the more you have to do things like this the more you learn.

There's a sticky somewhere that will take you through the steps for backing up and restoring 3rd party apps. It doesn't restore the registration keys, but at least you don't have to redownload everything.

Some 3rd party software has databases that can be restored (SplashID for instance). After you reload the OS and the 3rd party app you can do a selective restore and just bring over the database from the app. Granted, it can be challenging determining what database is for what, but with some detective work...

Good luck!
