Default Deactivate the lock/unlock-button?

Please Login to Remove!

How can I deactivate the lock/unlock-button at the top on the left?

I think it's very stupid, because in my pocket the bold deactivate the keylock automatically ...

i agree. i have that button on my 8900 and i think it is the stupidest idea rim has ever had. what is the point of having a lock feature if it can be activated so easily? when ever i put my phone into my pocket when in a seated position, i push the phone in on the top edge. usually hitting the unlock button!! why not just give us the option to deactivate the feature. let us choose what we want

Keeping the BlackBerry in your pocket is the real problem.

Except most people look like a complete tool wearing it on their pants.

set a password, that way the lock button will lock your screen, and when locked you must type your passsword to unlock the screen (the button cant unlock it automatically)

He doesn't want that to happen.

As far as I know there is no way to disable the button or reassign it. The button is way to easy to press.

you could break it like i broke mine

all you have to do is pry off the earpiece, there is a ribbon cable that connects the lock/unlock to the mute button (on the other side). if you cut that cable, the button will no longer function.

if you wished to lock/unlock your device in the future, you could do it thru the screen icon. to unlock, hold down the end call button.

.....or look into a case that leaves an opening over the button.

Default Make it a convenience key?

I don't lock the phone in the first place, never needed to... so that's a useless button for me. But I'd love it if it were a third mappable convenience key. Anyone know of an app that let's you remap the top buttons?

I just discovered this little issue with my 9700 over the weekend. Walking around LAX, I heard this woman's voice. There was nobody around me. Then it repeated. I pulled my phone out and it was trying to configure voice dialing. I had locked it, and put it in my pocket (which promptly unlocked it). I think "thigh dialed" voice dialing.

What were they thinking?

And, no, I don't want a password. I often only get moments a day when I can used my cell phone, and I don't want to waste some of those typing a password.

I use the holster. That and/or locking the BB is your only choice. Thigh dialing is a variation on butt dialing, right

I understand you don't want to put a password on the device, but I would highly recommend doing so. You can set the timeout to whatever works best for you so you don't have to constantly put in the password. I understand that you never needed to... yet. But what happens if you'd lose the device? Whoever finds it has access to all of your personal information, your contacts information, etc.

Not something I would want some stranger to have. Just some food for thought.

Bah. Now I've discovered that you can't listen to music while the device is in standby mode.

Well, technically it is the *mute* button that puts it in standby ...

LOL! I forgot that. However, doesn't the "Mute" button mute the mic as opposed to the speaker? Then again, the manual does say, "Play/Pause a media file" for that button. That still doesn't help me with locking the keyboard when I'm using my Blackberry to listen to music though.
