Default Extension Dialing

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to find a solution with our BlackBerrys at our company to be able to just dial the four digit extension and for it to automatically dial that extension. I pick up my desk phone and dial the four digit extension and it goes to that extension, how do I get my BlackBerry to do the same? I help adminster the BES at the office and all of use our BlackBerrys religiously. I looked into the Smart Dialing some and I don't think its what I'm looking for, it doesn't seem to work as if I just enter the four digits and hit the send button. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Is there an added application needed to tie in with the BES? Any help would be appreciated!

As far as I know you can't. Though you are on a bes your phones are on a different network that allows them to direct dial. Its like a subnet to grossly simplify it. It would be like trying to call one of your office lines from a home phone

Don't think you can either. Maybe just program the numbers and the extensions into address books?

I'm assuming that the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System is the solution to this?

Yeah that seems to be something more along the lines of what you're looking for, though I dont know if they can still just dial a simple 4 digit extension from the BBs.

You can do this with Smart Dialing if you are always dialing the same 'main' number. To do this, you'd first enter the main number in the Smart Dialing screen (in the 'Number' field in the 'To access office extensions within my corporation, call' section).

Now if you want to dial extension 1234 from your BB, you'd simply dial x1234. The BB will dial the main number, then prompt to dial the extension.

You may want to set up a direct number that can be reached from the outside of the voice that drops the caller directly into the voicedial directory. (see below)

As our outside line directly connections to a receptionist, who of course freaks when they start hearing beeps at the end of the line...or it rings all the way through to our cisco voip network and asks us to dial any extension

main office number (pause) ext#
(works when no one answers are main line)

Does that make sense?

If it matters we use Cisco voip (the phones at least say cisco). and 5 digit extensions As I know it is possible to setup can set an outside line to directly reroute to a specific extension. It stands to reason you could do the same to a "dead" extension and get prompted by the system to enter a different Ext etc.

As a slightly related (or unrelated) question. If that main line is answered by a live person...will the smart dialing work? Is there a way to forward directly to the backend system?

Would that affect calling other outside-of-work numbers? I'd imagine Smart Dialing would add the numbers before any number dialed.
