Default 3.8 on a NON-Charm BB

OK... I'm trying to work this out, but can't seem to get apploader to recognize the software. When I add it (already deleted previous 3.7 and 4.0 OS' from loader files), it doesn't report any errors, just doesn't show up on the apploader screen (checkboxes and all that.)

The device is completely wiped except for minimum OS4 core files.

Interestingly enough, I see this in Platform.alx

Nevermind... under the GPRS subdirectory, only file in there is rim7100g.bin

I need rim6230g.bin

Any clues?

Guess I need to research things before I post... found the file :P

Oh well, a play-by-play report never hurts anything...

Well, copying the rim6230g.bin file from the 3.7 software package doesn't work...

I have a BB 7230 running the cod-files from the 7100-package and the GPRS-file from a 3.7.1.x version. I did the following steps to get version 3.8 running on the 7230:
-Downloaded and installed FW-Package for 7100 and 72xx.
-Deleted everything from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7200-v3.7.1.37_P1.6.1.36\ beside the directory GPRS which contains rim7200g.bin.
-I copied everything from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7100-v3.8.0.115_P1.8.0.83 to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7200-v3.7.1.37_P1.6.1.36
-From C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader I deleted vendor.xml
-Then started apploader.exe and upgrade the device to 3.8
-Et voilá my 7230 is running 3.8

Is there any advantage to upgrading a 72xx/77xx BlackBerry to OS 3.8?

3.8 supposedly has support to use it as a wireless modem for your laptop

FYI... the above method posted by acnst will not work if you copy the files over the 4.0 system files.

So does your computer now recognize your BlackBerry as a modem?

Wow. You're brave. You can easily lobotomize a BlackBerry doing this.

This is not for the faint of heart!

Congratulations!

Well I've had to wipe it 2x already because I screwed up copying the files over. JVM errors and no boot. But desktop manager has always been able to easily re-install whichever software version I want to put on it...
