Default Blackberry 10 Synchronization Issues

Please Login to Remove!

We have been experiencing some frustrating issues with the Blackberry 10. We use Exchange 2003 with the Blackberry Device Server 6.2.0 (Bundle 45) for Blackberry connection via ActiveSync.

The first issue involved roaming and data useage. I had three separate users go way over their data limit within a few week period, all while travelling to different locations. One went to Philadelphia. One to San Francisco. And the other to Calgary. They all reported that their Blackberries were behaving strangely while away. They would look at the hub and see their emails then the emails would disappear. Then they would reappear again, but in batches like it does when you perform an initial setup of the email account on the device. Each user never uses more than 500MB of data total for the month. In a few days however, these users were using over 2GB of data on each of their accounts.

I have upgraded all of these accounts from 10.1 to 10.2.0.249 and have not seen this behavior again, though I do not fully trust that it has been fixed with the OS upgrade. One thing that all 3 of these users have in common is that their mailboxes are all quite large in Exchange (all around 5GB).

The second is similar but is occurring with contacts. I upgraded this user to OS 10.2.0.249 with no improvement. I have also had his phone replaced thinking it could be a hardware issue, but it has not fixed things either. This user has a reasonably sized mailbox (about 2GB) but he has over 5000 contacts in his Exchange Address Book. He is having the same issue in that he will look at his contacts and they all appear to be there, but then the next time he looks, there may be only about 20 in his Blackberry. He has made sure that his work 'area' is not locked and has attempted to reboot but it keeps happening.

I have spoken to our telecom provider however they have not been very helpful. They say the first issue cannot cause that much data useage and that the email is stored on the device once it synch's. Their only suggestion in both cases is to restore the device and try again, which is not fixing the issue.

I am hoping that someone might have experienced this issue themselves and can possibly point me to a fix. Blackberries are an intregral part of our business and a necessity for those employees who travel alot. With the current contact situation of the user who is still experiencing his issue, he cannot perform his job.

I love Blackberry and have stuck by them for many years as one of their fiercest defenders. If we cannot get this issue resolved, however, it will be time to look elsewhere.
