Default Battery Life

I had the same problem and it kept getting worse as time went on. I was using a Jawbone Prime almost all day. The Jawbone that I had started to have other issues (45 min talk time) so I took it back and got another in exchange. Since I have been using the new Jawbone I have fantastic battery life. If you are using a BT headset you might want to take that in consideration.

My battery life on the 9700 is the best I have experienced on any BlackBerry I have ever owned. It lasts so long I don't even think about it. I have gone entire weekends without ever charging the thing until I get back to my office on Monday. This is with the stock RIM 1500 mah battery.

WIFI/GPS/Bluetooth...they're all heavy battery drains. I use my B/T only when I'm using a Bluetooth device in the car, WIFI's only on when I need to connect to WIFI and GPS is never used. I get (with at least 1.5-2 hours/day of talk and 100 various MSGS), somewhere around 1.5 days of usage, with these settings...it's not amazing, but not bad either. I always keep a spare battery with me, just in case.

Oh yeah, for what it's worth, I leave WiFi off unless I know there is a hotspot and I want to use it. I leave BT on all the time, although it is not constanty connected to a device. Mainly connects every time I get in the car and that's it. But I have it on 100% so that I don't have to remember to turn it on or off. Having BT on, but not in constant use does not appear to be a major battery drain.

I maybe lose a half bar of battery power in a days time if I don't stream iHeart radio over the carriers network all day. Otherwise, it goes dead in about 5-6 hours and boy is it warm to the touch after that!

Actually I think it's Bell HSPA teething pains. I am also on Bell with a 9700 and some days I have great battery life and other days it's terrible. My guess is they are shutting down towers to work on them and then bringing them hot again. More than likely the work is try and fix the terrible call quality that comes around ever three or four calls. All this just a guess on my part.

battery life on the 9700 seems to be the best ever on any blackberry till now.

I was at 5% BATTERY on my 9000 and when I used the same battery on the 9700, I had 30% left or 25%//

best battery life out there for sure. Make sure you dont have background applications running. I took off BBM since I didnt want my contacts to bother my wives 9700 :p

I read that it all depends how you charge it for the first time.

I can't remember where I read this but I always FULLY charge it after taking it out. Then I DO NOT charge it until it drops to around 10%.

After this, you can charge whenever you want.

Some considerations:

Are you in a 3G fringe area? If the device is constantly searching for a 3G signal, it consumes more power.

Do you surf the web? That uses more power.

Do you have apps running int he back ground, especially data intensive apps? They take a lot of power, make sure you close them down and not just exit out.

Do you use the phone? That takes A LOT of power.
Basically, don't use it. ;) LOL

OP, Dimming the Back Light below 50% helps.

I set the Right Convenience to quickly turn Bluetooth ON/OFF, this also uses up power so I enable it only when I get in my Coupe.

My 9700 lasts a good 2 days with moderate/heavy use. When I first got the phone i used it until it had to turn the mobile signal off. I continued to use it playing brick breaker for another half hour, then I stuck it on the charger until it was 100% charged. Haven't had any problems yet.

since when are you not supposed to leave it on the charger overnight?
I do that on mine all the time, when it's done charging, the bolt just disappears and it never re-appears unless i unplug.

and with these batteries, it's actually a bad thing to let it drain all the time too.

I'm just in the habit of charging the BB every night, waking up to a fully charged battery is a great way to start the day!
