Default Very Hefty Data Roaming charges in Dubai

Please Login to Remove!

The national carrier Etisalat charges approx US$5.50 for 10kb of data minimum. So even if u download data 2-3kb they levy this minimum charge, whihc translates to US$5,50 per email. I ended up paying almost US$80 per day for each of the 4 days I was there. Apparently even when the BB logged on to the server to check for emails, I was charged $5,50 which was several times a day. Any comments, observations, advice ?

Use bb browser to access your emails online. Not the most productive way of doing it, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear with my post: turn data connection on when in free wifi area!!!

Thanks for catching that.

Right, since it is data. Not sure what you can do if you don't want to incur such high rates, but also want your emails.

I guess this is the story your carrier tells you. -- I visit Dubai regulary, and while I hate the data roaming charges (that are unfortunately all over the place), I never had this kind of charges.
