Default USB Driver, argh!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

Last night I got my hands on the beautiful 9700. After I got everything the way I wanted it, it was time to load up some music for the gym. What a great way to fill up a brand new SD card, right?

I loaded up the software that came with the product (Desktop Manager 5x) - What happened next blew me away.

I restarted the PC to be welcomed by a black screen of nothingness. The mouse, unresponsive, computer locked up.

To safemode I go, same issue.

It wasn't until 2 hours later I managed to remove the software and revert back to an older setting.

That being said, all I want is a simple USB driver so the phone acts as a hard drive, and I can drag and drop files to the music folder. That's all I need!

I've Googled for hours and come back with nothing, even files that are called "BlackBerry 9700 USB Driver" is just a renamed version of the Desktop Manager software.

Frustrated,
Mark

At this point (although desktop manager is useful for more than what you want it for), the easiest way is to gt a card reader, and use that to drag and drop files, and then place the card in your phone.

Hmm, I see.

Windows detects it as a RIM device but then fails at installing it.

Windows XP Pro, if that helps.

I will keep on searching on, if needed, will go for the card reader.

Its possible that you will need to go download 4.6 version of DM, and the 5.0 version has a problem with XP.

besides needing DM for drivers, you most certainly need it for device backups which we all suggest you do on regular basis.

I have DM 4.6 working just fine on my XP SP3 rig. It is the version of DM *without* media player.

Install the version without Roxio.

Roxio's "folder Watcher" can cause some un-needed slow downs with PCs.

The driver is RimUsb.sys , it should extracted to a temp directory after you run the install. just cancel the install and find the temp directory everything is in. That might help as well.
