Enterprises would require two servers -- one new, and one legacy -- to support newer BlackBerry 10 devices, and legacy BlackBerry 7 and earlier devices.
BES 5 not support to BB 10 device.

Question - will BES 10 support to Blackberry 7 or earlier devices or is it happily sit on the same server ( BES 5 ) or need to new server ?

BES 10 will not install on BES 5 server. You can create a VM if you have the resources.

If on 2008 and current open license you can have 2 VMs with a single Server 2008 license.

I went with datacenter 2012 so no more issues with server lilcenses. pay once and use as many as you want till you run out of RAM. I know not a solution for small shops but it might help larger ones that are not in the know.

Wait until May and RIM is releasing a version of BES that will allow all of it to run on one platform.

Getting conflicting information, so just want to clarify, what I am hearing is if you install BES10, the current BB devices (legacy device) can still be used as BES10 is backward compatible but users of these devices may not have or benefit from all the BES10 features. Though BES10, is backward compatible, the devices themselves cant be upgraded to BB10 software and to get full value and features of BES10, you will require a BB10 device, is this correct ?

Also from what I understand you can do a inplace upgrade to BES10 as long as your BES is on 5.0.4, is this correct too ?

BES10 is not backward compatible. You will need two BES - one to handle legacy RIM devices and one to handle new BlackBerrys. See how I used both company names.

Two BES.

This has been confirmed in the training material that I have recieved from RIM.
There will be a new update that will allow BES 5.04+ to co-exist with BES 6.2 (BES 10)

Does that remove the need to run two versions of BES?

Our BB 7 and earlier devices use BES 4 or 5 for PIM sync only - no policies or anything like that.

Do we even need BES 10 for Blackberry 10, or will ActiveSync take care of everything we currently use BES for?

Yep.
No task sync (Microsoft can't figure out that Outlook customers use Tasks).

Well, we don't use Tasks, or even Outlook - so I assume I'm good without BES now?

You say you do PIM sync - exactly what do you want to sync?
And what e-mail system?

All I really want is push sync of Email, Calendar and Contacts with our corporate email servers, whether they be Exchange, Lotus Notes, Groupwise - or whatever ActiveSync enabled back-end.

For BB7 and earlier, we used BES 4 and 5 for this. But it seems with BB10, we won't need BES at all - though it is way useful for the policies.

It will work with Exchange.
I just looked in the Z10 options; it does sync tasks also. Have to check that out.

I have several clients with Exchange 2003 and BES 5.

They are buying BB10 handhelds.

Do I have any ability to provide email sync for them besides using POP3?

Feeling a little sheepish - I did not realize that Exchange 2003 SP2 had integrated some ActiveSync capabilities - I only thought Exchange 2007 and newer had integrated ActiveSync.

So, I assume that other admins have BB10, iPhones, Android, etc. syncing with EX2K3?
