I have an 8120 Pearl and I successfully connected to my home WiFi network. But, whenever i try to access a website, google.com for example, I'm getting "unable to find the requested server". I don't have a BB data plan, but I shouldn't need one when using wifi, so what could it be? I have security enabled WPA and I'm able to connect using my iPhone and 3 laptops... so it must be the device and not the router, does WPA have anything to do with it?

what do i do once i check my settings? what am i looking for?

Yes, you need to set your default browser to the Hotspot Browser.

Sorry, guess I had been coding too long. Sounds like it is time to look at the Wi-Fi diagnostic tool. Manage Connections -> Wi-Fi Options -> Menu -> Wi-Fi Tools -> Wi-Fi Diagnostics

What does it say in the top section? You can also try the DNS and Ping tools. Does the DNS server make sense, can you ping it and other systems?

hmm theres a lot of info in this sections but here goes:

It looks like the problem lies under UMA... I've tried power cycling the router and the BB, so that hasn't helped.

You don't have a BlackBerry data plan, so you'll never be able to use UMA.
That's a different issue than your original one, and not related to web browsing.

Ok, thats good to know haha... yeah I just want to use WiFi, any ideas?

No, but you know what I found out... I was able to get the wifi to work on my neighbors network, meaning maybe there's a compatibility issue with my router? i have a SAGEM F@ST 2404, anyone know what I can do? change settings from the router?

Not sure if you mentioned it earlier but have you tried disabling the security features and/or firewall settings on your router and trying to connect?

Does sound like an issue with your router. But what exactly I'm not sure. It's hit and miss. It took me two days to connect to my home router, but it's been working fine ever since. Weird I know.

If you don't have data it may mean that your router isn't providing the DHCP support the Blackberry is looking for. If you do have that, and just left it out for clarity try these:


You could still try the DNS Lookup Application, same menu as Wi-Fi Diagnostics. You should see something like:

Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Then fill in a host to look up, like Google then Menu -> Lookup Host
You should see:

Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Host: www.google.com
Last time used: Jun 26, 2009 9:23 PM
Results: Response OK! Address(es):
64.233.169.104
etc.

If that works exit and go to the Ping tool and try pinging one of the google IPs, if it doesn't work try pinging the IP of the DNS server(s).

That will tell us if you router is providing either working DNS, or the addresses for working DNS servers, then if you can ping out to the net.
