hi, i recently bought a second hand blackberry 8520 and it was working fine with pay as you go sim card on orange, i activated the blackberry services and all was fine for a couple of days.
Then all of a sudden it stopped letting me call or send messages, as soon as i press the green call button it instantly says call failed, at first i thought but i have near enough full signal and GPRS showing. I can still use my internet browser fine, all my facebook apps etc so what is causing this?
I've looked on other forums and seen other people explaining this same problem and stating it could be something to do with reception in the area or poor signal etc but it cannot be this as I've had the phone working in my same house as it was before with the same nearly full signal and plus i have other phones in the house on orange and their phones are working fine as our area is a well covered reception area?!?!
Please help somebody!

What network status does it show in the upper right hand corner? gprs, GPRS, ???

Have you tried a different SIM card?

You state you activated blackberry services. Exactly what did you ask the carrier to do? Do you mean you added the Blackberry Data plan? It seems there is a mismatch in the service you have one is a pay as you go call service and the other is a data plan if thats what you added. It may be wise to call the carrier and make sure you have valid cell service with the blackberry data plan included.

It shows GPRS (capitals), and yer mate i've tried another orange pay as you go sim card and a 02 payg sim, with no luck it still says call failed instantly soon as you try and make a call

The cell service may not be provisioned with the carrier. The BB will show what it sees for radio service levels without regard to actual service the individual user is allowed to have. Call the carrier.

i thought this because my same sim works in my other blackberry with all the services, apps etc and can make and receive calls but i seen on another forum someone stating they worked for orange and if it was blocked due to stolen/lost then the signal bar would not show at all? personally i haven't got a clue!

Call your carrier.

Signal is a reflection of what the blackberry radio sees. It has nothing to do with serivce.

As suggested many times, call your carrier unless of course your the one who stole the BB and are trying to make it work.

Like tsac said, the signal strength doesn't tell you if the carrier will let your particular device onto their network for service. Just because the radio sees the network doesn't mean the network will accept traffic from it.
