Question switching carrier OS

Please Login to Remove!

I've bought my 9700 from Optimus portugal and got it unlocked by RIM and now using a Vodafone card. My question is if I can, since the device is unlocked, to install vodafone OS in replace of the one coming originally with device. I know that when the device is locked and we want to install an OS that was not released from our carrie,we need to delete the file vendor.xml. i tryed to search but didnt see anyone answering to this particulary question.

Yes, you can.

You can load ANY carrier's OS on the device, actually whether it is unlocked or not.

Follow the simple instructions posted in the Sticky Threads for "Latest OS..." at the the top of this 9700 section.

But keep in mind that if you are looking to change the opening splash screen to that of your current carrier, the OS won't do that.

having the phone locked or unlocked has nothing to do vendor.xml file nor does it affect the ability to install another OS version.

As I understand it, you need to remove that file so your carrier specific pieces restore from the back up.

And our SEARCH feature is usually pretty good - when it isn't broken:
