Lightbulb Wireless Backup (backup messages?)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I got approx. 25 users which will be migrated to BES 4.0 in the next weeks.
Currently they are running on Desktop Manager with automatic backup activated.
Means if they loose/destroy their Blackberry they get themselfes a new one and I can resore ALL data (this includes the saved emails).

I've read that BES 4.0 does automatic wireless backup (profiles, favorites, etc.), but have not read about messages (emails) beeing within this backup.

If I want my emails backed up I still need to have the Desktop Manager installed, right, or is this also part of the wireless backup?

Thanks,

joe

When you activate a new device, you can set it on the 4.0 BES to bring over emails as well. I have mine set to include the last 5 days of messages. It only brings the headers but if the user needs the whole message, they can just ask for more from the device. This has worked well for my users. Most don't need more than 5 days of email on their BBs anyway and they welcome the opportunity to "clean" it up a bit.

So, it doesn't really backup emails like DTM Backup/restore but when you do a new activation, it will bring over email headers. The number of messages is customizable by you from the BES.

the bes 4.0 "pre-population" is really good not like 3.6 where basicaly the emails started on the handheld when the account on bes was created.
you can populate to a maximum of 7 days previous messages (default is headers only but you can change this) and also default of 200 messages max but again this can be raised but as far as I am aware it does not backup messages themselves.

definately no backup of messages, it will simply grab the last few hundred from the Exchange mail store, which is good enough for most.
