Default New Bold vs New Storm

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure which one to go for?

My contract is available for upgrade in January, so they both should be out, but im not sure if i want to stay with Orange because they have issues with call drops and 3G doesnt ever work.

However if i wait till April i can move network and look at Storm 2 with Vodafone..

Not too sure as i do use WIFI quite often on my current Bold.

What do you guys think?

Both of those will have WiFi.

I would give them both a couple weeks, go play with one of each at the store and decide to do the 9700 now (or next week) or wait on your contract to be up, to get the new Storm.

Wirelessly posted (My name is Bubbles)

I am leaning to the Storm2, I have a 9000 Bold and like it a lot so now I want to try that out.

I ran the compare on the blackberry website. The 2 devices seem very similar in many ways except the obvious touch screen vs keys.
The Storm has 2GB on board memory the 9700 has 256MB but the flash is the same. But with expandable microSD memory onboard memory I guess is not that important.
Can someone explain the differences in laymans terms between the video and audio formats? There are differences between to two devices but I dont understand them in terms of use. Also, any other difference that are notable between the two.

As for deciding which one to go for? I think if you're after a multimedia device then Storm2 is the one to go for. In England VodafoneUK is shipping Storm2 with 16GB memory card!
As for multimedia as far as I know there isn't too much difference but obviously with Storm having bigger screen watching videos on it would be completely different experience!

It appears the Bold 2 supports more formats though. I'm not familiar with all these formats, so not sure how it would matter to me. For example under the Bold2 it supports DivX 4 5/6, XviD, etc. but the Storm2 does not.
I'll make up my mind once I have had a chance to try each. I doubt that format support differences is going to be a deciding factor. But it would be nice to understand the differences in hardware/software.

Keep in mind, that spec wise, except for the type of processors and such, they are the same (bluetooth, gps, wifi, camera, etc. ) but the radio's is where it'll be the game making difference.

ATT will only support quad band/UMTS, where Verizon supports not only the dual band CDMA with rev 0 and A but also Quad band as well and UMTS making it more feasible for someone who really wants to globe trot around with a phone that will work anywhere with any network.

So i would say Storm 2 if you want a touch phone, but i'd say compare the bold 9700 with the tour 2! thank god im getting BOTH!

What about HSDPA? Its on the Bold2 not the Storm2. How do you weigh that difference?
Is it a big difference or not really?

The Storm 2 is going to be a major device for RIM, I'd go with the Storm 2 simply because of the attention it is going to get from 3rd party developers. I know I'm grabbing a Storm 2 in Canada as soon as I can and I'm a bold user now.

I think each model draws different crowd. Storm 2 might draw crowd from iphone users that requires much more power email on the go kind of device. Bold 2 will draw crowd from 8900/8520..etc those QWERTY users.

Default Qwerty v Touchscreen

Is pretty much the up or down on the choice. Storm2 has reportedly fixed the glitches in Storm1, and is overall an improvement, but its still a touch screen. Which means a nice big screen, but having to use an onscreen virtual keyboard to type text, and getting used to the sensitivity of an active screen. Also, because you will always be swiping and pawing and pecking at the touch screen, it will be constantly smudged.

Bold2 is built around the mainstay of Blackberry -- its sublime qwerty keyboard -- the screen is significantly smaller than the Storm2's but the model is also smaller than the Bold1 and replaces the old trackball with a new trackpad, which gives, with a little familiarity, something like the feeling of a virtual touchscreen (without the smudging).

Just returned a Verizon Storm to for a T-Mobile Bold 2. Networds aside I much prefer the BOLD 2. The Storm 2, while being much better than the initial Storm still has some way to go before being 'recommendable'.

It is very difficult to type on and relies on it's auto correction to help with that. I ccame from using an iphone and the typing on the iphone, while not simple was much better.

Also with the Storm you loose the one touch dials from the homescreen and doing simple things like looking up a contact is more complicated and slow.

While the touchpad on the new Bold 2 is great and probably better than the ball, I find that the ball was more precise, when in good condition and not plagued with the dirt issue.

Storm is silly. If you're serious about using your bb as a workhorse, you need the bold. If you want to watch youtube on your phone and impress your friends, get the iphone.

I have used both. I am sticking with the 9700 as I use it for email and messenger a lot. If I mainly used it for browsing, twitter, facebook etc, the Storm 2 would be the one to go for. The footprint of the 9700 is slightly smaller than the Storm. Overall if you are a heavy user, I think the 9700 is the way to go.
