Question Push e-mail bearer

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

1. Which is the BlackBerry push bearer? E-mail pushes come to the device through WAP, GPRS or something else?
2. Do the first 2KB of a message travel together with the push notification?

Many thanks in advance.

Bo.

The message will travel over whatever data network you are connected to. WAP actually goes over GPRS (if that is the data network you are on).

Emails go as such (message originating from email NOT on the blackberry):

Email Server -> Rim Infrastructre -> Wireless Carrier Infrastructure -> HandHeld

The opposite is true from email going from the blackberry.

The 2K data is for the entire packet (including headers, etc).

Hi,

first of all thanks for the reply.

My doubt is still unresolved, probably because I wrongly wrote my question:

- does the BlackBerry push notification "travel" over SMS or IP?

In short term: which is the push notification bearer?

Many thanks.

Bo.

Forget SMS or IP. You're thinking SMS from a phone standpoint and IP from a computing stand point, neither are relevent here. When an email leaves the BES server it gets thrown over GPRS to the device PIN. Effectively the packets of data are travelling through the wireless carriers specific APN for the BlackBerry service to the device PIN.

Thanks BB_Admin,

I'm aware about what you said.
I was just curious to know if the push is delivered through SMS or IP.

That's all.

If anybody can put some light on this it would be great.
Otherwise, it's ok, thanks.

BO
