I connect to WiFi on my 8320 easily and get great service, when on WiFi I get UMA come up, firstly, what does UMA mean, and also when in this mode I cannot receive phone calls , they go direct to voicemail. Am I doing anything wrong? Appreciate any help on this???

UMA is using the wifi to send and receive calls. I don't remember the technical name for that abbreviation. In the US, I know Tmobile has a service where you can do this WIFI calling and if you sign up for the plan, it helps save you minutes.

Seeing that your service is Orange, I don't know if they offer the same thing. If they don't, that could be the reason why your phones are being forwarded to voicemail.

UMA = Unlicensed Mobile Access
It allows calls between WiFi and GSM.

Orange does offer UMA service. Otherwise UMA wouldn't come up on the device. As to why it goes straight to voicemail, I don't know. It should work just as if you were on EDGE. Have you contacted Orange with that issue? There are lots of factors that play into UMA problems. Router, ISP, etc.

I have a similar problem but the calls get through but sometimes they can be appalling. I just turn off my connection to a Wifi network so the phone uses gprs instead (though a more efficient answer would be much appreciated) not sure if it helps but there is another thread with a very similar question with the solution...

There are some wifi router settings you should pay attention to in order to make it work on UMA.

In order for IPsec to work, the following ports need to be allowed through the firewall in both directions:

* UDP port 500 (Internet Key Exchange or “IKE”)
* UDP port 4500 (IPSec/IKE NAT-T)

Many consumer-grade routers, including the T-Mobile branded Wi-Fi routers, include a simple check-box that will enable IPsec communications. This option is typically named ‘Enable IPsec passthrough’ or something similar.
For users of advanced corporate firewalls or home-built firewalls (typically running a UNIX-like operating system), IPSec may also require explicit rules to allow the following two protocols (independent of port) through the firewall:

o IP protocol 51 (Authentication Header or “AH”)

Have you tried changing the connection preference to Wi-Fi Preferred?
