Problems receiving MMS pictures
Please Login to Remove!
It seems like about 90% of the time when I receive an MMS message on my 8320 with a picture attached, I have trouble and get the "Unable to receive/retrieve data, please try again later" message. The other 10% seems to work ok. It seems like this is worse now than it used to be. Sometimes it takes over a day to retrieve the picture (when I "try again later" every so often).
When I send a picture to myself via MMS to my phone number it works like it should.
Device memory is fine ~20000000
MMS settings are set to always/always.
No difference when I'm on UMA vs EDGE.
I called TMobile. I did a battery pull and pulled the simms card. TMobile supposedly did something on their end, but it didn't solve my problem.
Any suggestions?

any trouble with email attachments? it may also be the size of the MMS that is being sent. I am uncertain if Tmo has a size limit on receiving MMS, i think sending is 300kb

Email attachments work fine.
The pics are pretty small. I did a test by having someone send a picture to me and to my wife at the same time. She got her picture immediately, mine took hours on the same TMobile plan.

Yeah I've done that and it works every time I do. In fact, when I do that, then it seems like the MMS messages that I still haven't been able to view download successfully. It just seems silly that I have to frequently send myself a pic just to kickstart TMo to let me see other pics sent to me.

Your device is trying to connect and download the attachment but for whatever reason (low coverage area, device needs a battery pull, crappy signal inside your house) it isn't able to.
Does this issue seem to happen in just one location (i.e., at home, or at work, etc.)? Is this an MMS message or an email with a picture attached?
What version of software do you have loaded onto your Blackberry?
When you go to Options > Security Options > Firewall is your firewall enabled or disabled? I've heard of the blank MMS issue being resolved by enabling the firewall. It's something to test. On both my 8100 and 8320 I've never had any issues with sending or receiving MMS and my firewall is always disabled.

As I pointed out in my opening post, I've done a battery pull, signal is not an issue (UMA or EDGE), my software version is in my signature (180), and it is an MMS with a picture.
My firewall was disabled. At your suggestion, I've enabled it and had a picture sent to me from the same source that usually doesn't work. The picture came up instantly. I'm hoping this is not coincidental. I'll post back after a few more messages. It would be great if this is a fix since I know others have this problem.

there have been dozens (read hundreds) of posts of MMS problems on the Tmo side. Generally speaking sending an MMS to yourself kickstarts the system into working, either for the duration, or for the short term

This happens to me 99% of the time that I get a MMS message. I always wondered why this happens as well. Good to see I am not the only one. If I am at home, I am on UMA or if at work I have near full service bars downtown. So I don't know if coverage is really the underlying issue.

Well - I'm still having the problems with MMS picture messages. No change except the "kickstart" doesn't seem work anymore. I can always receive pics that I send to myself. But now I can't retrieve message content on others. I currently have a message with an estimated download size =6k that I can't open.
Anymore thoughts?
Is anyone using an 8320 on TMo that does not have this problem?

I know of about 25 T-Mobile users on the 8320 and 8100 and we all have this issue.

Yeah, T-Mobile's MMS service is suspect at best. Sometimes I am able to send for days without issue. Then (like for the last couple of days) I can't send any. Oh well...

I am in the same boat. I am using a Pearl and a Curve (Both T-Mo) and the curve works fine, but the pearl cant view any messages. What a joke.

Yeah, i've had the same issues...not a big deal since im not too concerned with MMS. just send yourself about 3 MMS messages in a row and it'll force the others through. Just what I've been told and it works. Good Luck!!

My wife sends me a few pictures per day from her Blackberry 8100 (using T-Mobile pre-paid so it's true MMS and not an email) to my Blackberry 8320 and I can't recall any major issues. Occasionally I might get a message saying the picture can't be downloaded right now but trying it again always works fine.

Well I've been trying "again later" for 2 days now with no luck. Even when I send myself a few without a problem, the others can't be retrieved.
I assume this is a TMo-Blackberry issue as opposed to just a TMo issue. I have a TMo family plan with 5 lines. Three of those are RAZRs and to my knowledge none of them have ever had this problem. If it weren't for this, my curve would be perfect. Well ok, it is anyway, but this is a little frustrating.
It sure would be nice if the new OS fixes this.

Ok, I seemed to have figured out a solution on the Pearl. I ran through the settings and discovered under the MMS option that " Automatic Retrieval" was not set to " always". I set it to always and now I am receiving messages. Some of them I still had to click retrieve all, but they are coming through.

I hope that continues to solve your problem. As for me, MMS was already set to always.

I have shown all of my friends that send me MMS to just send the MMS to my blackberry.net address. They seem to have caught on well.
