Default Auto / Mortgage / Tip - Calculator

Please Login to Remove!

I am a new BB developer and have written my first application. I have noticed many people asking for different calculators here in the forums and figured this was something I could do for a first time application. The application is graphically simple and functional.

I do not have a fancy website or anything as of the moment. I have made the application available for OTA installation. It can be found by clicking here --> BLUU BB Development.

I would appreciate constructive criticism, as well as, any thoughts or suggestions as to what can be done to improve upon this application. It has been tested on Storm OS 4.7.0.109 as well as the Eclipse Storm simulator.

Updates:

0.3.73
  • Corrected the clear function in the Tip calculator.
0.3.74
  • Changed user input labels on the Tip calculator.
  • "Amount of Bill" is now "Bill Amount".
  • "Tax on Bill" is now "Bill Tax (optional)".
  • The tax field is only necessary if you want to calculate a tip using the bill amount without tax (sub-total).

Issues:
Here are a few screenshots:

Default Good Start

Please keep up the work... I think the BB world needs the app effort the iphone has received.
So ... how to make an app graphically pleasing and fun to use.... Don't reinvent the wheel - improve on it... Take some cues from the iphone apps - perhaps use the accelerometer &/or GPS in an innovative way.

I'd pay $5+ for a good simple(1-3 function) app. like this.

Graphics are important. Some buttons overlap and the screen appears crowded at times. Make your app interesting & fun to use...

Good luck. I'm sure your efforts will pay off...

Thanks! I have had a few requests to make the percentage on the Tip screen a choice box. I am going to change that here in a bit and post an update. I think I will make the percentages 3 - 30. It is probably overkill but at least it will be easily selected.

I agree to some extent that graphics are important for applications to be successful. Generally though, graphics for BB's have not been this way. Apps for BB's are more utilitarian first and then graphics. Considering this is my first application, I had to start somewhere. I am getting the coding part down, I think graphics though require a bit of artistic talent, which I don't I feel I come up short on. I plan on giving it a go though.

For some reason I can't edit my OP. Anyway, I have updated this app to have a user selectable percentage on the Tip screen rather than an input field. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks!
