Dead BB8100 after a failed OS 4.5 update

Tried upgrading my ATT 8100 OS to 4.5 today using the BB DM6. The DM recognized the device, offered an upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5. During installation process, the DM aborted the installation/upgrade indicating loss of connection with the device. The device now just keeps blinking the red LED twice in quick succession followed by a long pause.
- Any idea how to fix this??
NOTE - This has been reported in multiple posts/queries within this forum over the last 3-4 years. Unfortunately, I could not find any solution that works.
Any serious suggestions/advice on how to make this work?
