It will be an OS update. You will need to use the desktop manager to update the device.

As of March 28th, all new BlackBerry 7250s shipped from Bell Mobility will be preloaded with OS 4.1, and will be EvDO/Tethering compatible.

As far as upgrading existing units, here's the official word:

"Customers currently using a BlackBerry 7250 device will be able to update their device to make it 1xEV-DO capable. Details on how customers can do this will be made available [soon]."

I called the data support group today. They said, quoting from an email they received today, than an update will be available at Bell World stores starting on the 27th. No mention of doing this OTA.

For the 7250 to operate on the EvDO networks there are two components required:

1) an upgrade to OS 4.1; this cannot be completed OTA.

2) a PRL update. While it is possible to update the PRL of a BlackBerry OTA, Bell Mobility does not have this function provisioned on the network side (unless something has changed very recently).

There are some Bell Mobility and Bell World stores that will be setup with the facilities to perform the required upgrades. There is also a possibility (and this is purely supposition) that Bell Mobility will allow existing RIM users to swap their existing 7250s for refurbished units loaded with OS 4.1 under the warranty exchange program.

I asked this over at another mobile forum, but what the heck...

With this upcoming release of the OS for the 7250, what are the odds that the TCP/IP stack will be enabled, thus, not requiring a third party BES host (for those of us NOT on a corporate BES) for access to the internet for telnet/ssh/messenger programs? Seeing as how bell is pretty much the only canadian carrier that doesn't have this stack in enabled

If so...i would be *very* happy.

Will Bell Mobility and their last to do anything new and exciting policies, i think the chances of TCP/IP stack enabling will be slim to nil, but i hope i'm wrong.

As for OS 4.1 and Ev-do, I'm excited for that. I've been using the Sprint OS 4.1 on my 7250 for the last few days and i like it. But it'll be nice to have the actual supported version, plus the PRL update for Ev-do, which i believe i can get done at the store i work at :D

Nope. Kanata.

Hey milkman, what store are you working at? I gotta get me some of that free account action. Our store's owners don't pay for anything for us :(

Just went to the Bell World in Newmarket. After delivering a 45min training session (they were so clue less) one of the senior drones confirmed that they wouldn't have the PRL till monday

Haha nice. My store is private so no demo lines for me. But my plan is reasonable enough for my needs.
