I like the PIN also. Its my preferred way of messenging without charge.

Now one question that I have is: is it possible to get a report or print out a billing cycles worth of PIN messages. I'm with Nextel in case anyone has a clue.

Heres how I got Delivery Reports on SMS with my 8700r

With the SIM card in and BlackBerry booted up. Here is what I get under
Options>SMS

Disable Auto text
Leave messages on SIM
Data Coding
Service center #
Network to send over
Number of previous items 7

As you can see, there is no option for delivery notification.

So.... Try this

Copy down the Service Center # EXACTLY
Remove Battery, and then remove SIM card. Then replcae the battery without the SIM Card. After it has rebooted..

Goto Options>SMS

You should now see the Delivery Reports

Change it from off to on

Put the Service Center # in that you copied down earlier

Now Save

Now... when you try to Exit the Options screen its gonna ask you to Save, Discard.. Click save. This will keep happening, so after you have clicked save just hit the End Call Button and that will get you out.

Now, Take the battery out and insert the SIM card and reboot the phone.

It should work now. It did for me. You still wont see the delivery option in the OPTIONS>SMS when the SIM card is in.

This has to be done everytime you take the SIM out.. I have also found that when I send a SMS sometimes to someone that isnt on the same network that Im on, I dont get the D. It always works though if Im SMSing someone on the same network

PIN messages are not archived. That may be an option with the newer BES sw but I don't think it is.

You can also put 111 before the text message. the recipient won't see the "111" part and you will get a text back saying it was delivered. ie:

to:801-xxx-xxxx

111hey bill we on for dinner?

They only get:

hey bill we on for dinner?

If you mean is there a way of getting a transcript on you bill, no there is not. At least not with my company. I am pretty sure not with others as well

You mean PINs? PINs work on Cingular.

You were probably confusing PINs with BBMessenger. BBMessenger states that it is not supported by Cingular. And all that means is that it will work, but Cingular Tech Support is not equiped to handle it.

Love the BB messenger and Pins. We use them a lot. I agree is like a message DC. Have not had to use them during an email outage yet.

I guess its also a benefit for users who do not want their workplace archving/backing up messages... They do not get transfered through BES servers and aren't monitored..

Although this caused a problem with the federal govt in Canada. The wanted to get BB's out of government because these messages (PIN) weren't being tracked/couldnt be recorded and thus were not "public" under the freedom of information act.

NJBlackberry is right: it's Blackberry only. The nature of PINs is that they never leave the RIM server system - no Internet, no cross-communication of any form. That's what makes them so reliable.

I tried the 111 trick in SMS on 7250 on Bell Mobility. It didn't work as indicated. I do not receive a delivery notification.

Is this feature network specific?

As BES administrator, PIN messages are great. I can still get PIN messages out to one or more users when we're having a problem with the BES or corporate mail server. Plus, like someone else mentioned, PIN messaging is a great troubleshooting tool. Anytime a user calls to report enterprise email isn't working, I sent them a quick PIN message. It lets me know if the remote BlackBerry is gettting data connectivity to the Research In Motion infrastructure or not. That way it helps verify where I need to start troubleshooting.

I say leave it in.
