China Mobile appears to have coverage in most of western China; Shanghai is not on the map I looked at. T-Mobile has a roaming agreement with China Mobile; they run on the 900 MHz frequency. What BlackBerry do you have (Cingular tends to forget about the 900 MHz band).

No any coverage in China now. But you can use normal call and SMS in China by 900/1800. If your BB have been unlocked, you also can use local SIM to save your money there. I'm using BB7230 in standalone model in China.

Yes, BB works in China, Beijing and ShangHai. As long you have roaming activated and when you select a network it gives you a "GPRS" (in caps) then it works. T-Mobile have a roaming with almost all China cell providers.

CHina Mobile is the only Chinese provider that will support the BB. You need to manually select a network by going to:

options
network
change to maual slection and look for China Mobile, then try to logon. You must have international roaming activated on your account for it to work.

If China Mobile is on GSM 900, it will not work with the 7280. Cingular made that an 850/1800/1900 device.

You're right. Didn't realize they made anything with that band configuration. 1800 is pretty useless unless you're in Europe. 900 covers a lot more networks.

I know ;)

I just double checked on GSMWorld and T-Mobile's coverage web site. China Mobile, which has a roaming agreement with T-Mobile is exclusively on the 900 MHz band. A good reason for a quad band device....

I work renting BB's for global roaming. GSM world is a great source of information. We initially had some issues with the network in China, but it seems to be working fine now. Quad-band is definitely the way to go, but 900/1800/900 fits the bill most of the time. 850 is good for certain parts of the US and newer expanded coverage in Central/South America and Carribean. 900 and 1900 are the two key ones though.
