Functional changes
New language support - BlackBerry® Internet Service Email now supports the rendering and transmission of the following languages: Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, and Korean.
Enhanced Yahoo! Mail support - If subscribers add a Yahoo! ® Mail email account to their BlackBerry Internet Service account, they can delete a message from their Yahoo! inbox, and have the change reflected on their BlackBerry device. If subscribers have BlackBerry Device Software version 4.1 or later, they will receive a branded Yahoo! Mail icon on the BlackBerry device home screen.
Usability and user interface improvements - Improvements have been made to the contents of the online help, context sensitive help, and the user interface text descriptions based on customer, partner, and usability research feedback.
Read and delivery receipts - Subscribers can view delivery receipts when an email message is successfully delivered from their BlackBerry Internet Service email address. Once the email message is delivered to the recipient’s mailbox, the icon beside the sent message in the Message list on the BlackBerry device updates to show a “D” for delivered. Subscribers can respond to a request for a read receipt. Subscribers can change the settings for read receipts on their BlackBerry device. (Requires BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.)
Auto forward - Subscribers can set an auto forward email address so that the BlackBerry Internet Service automatically forwards the full email messages including all applicable email message attachments and text that they receive on their BlackBerry device to the defined email address.
Address book vCard attachments - If subscribers receive a vCard® attachment, it is converted to a BlackBerry address book entry. If subscribers send a BlackBerry address book entry to another BlackBerry email address, the entry remains a BlackBerry address book entry on the recipient’s BlackBerry device. If subscribers send a BlackBerry address book entry to an email address that is not a BlackBerry email address, the entry converts to a vCard to properly render in the recipient’s email account.
Calendar iCal attachments - Subscribers can send and receive, accept or decline iCal meeting requests from other BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers. (Requires BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2 and is not supported on BlackBerry Connect devices.)
WAV file attachments - BlackBerry Internet Service version 2.2 supports .wav file attachments on the BlackBerry device. (Requires BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.)
BlackBerry Connect support improvements - BlackBerry Internet Service version 2.2 has the following enhancements for BlackBerry Connect devices: native attachment support, xHTML-based account setup templates for devices, full support for all BlackBerry Connect software versions, new subscribers accounts automatically created on BlackBerry Internet Service Email version 2.2 platform, service book count optimizations, and relaxation of the user name must equal the BlackBerry email address restriction. (Applies to Asia-Pacific and European regions only.)
