Default Restoring Password keeper from Curve 8900 onto Torch 9800

Please Login to Remove!

I had my old Blackberry Curve 8900 stolen and it's been replaced with a new Torch 9800.

I want to restore the content of my Password Keeper from a backup of my old Curve 8900 onto my Torch 9800. Does anyone know if this is possible and if I am in the restore tool and have taken the option to Select Device and Data settings, what item(s) should I be looking to restore?

Thanks.

Are you doing a full restore? That will definitely restore the password keeper data base.

If you are just restoring the password keeper data, select the option in desktop manager to restore selected data, and find password keeper data in the list of databases. I can't say I'm certain it will be there, but I don't know why it wouldn't be.

If you don't have the password keeper app on your device, use the device applications feature of desktop manager to add it. While doing that double check what is installed and what is not installed, and add or remove as you desire, then finish.

Thx for the suggestions.

I didn't want to do a full restore because as this is a different model of BB with a different OS I was worried that I might overwrite something with a non-compatible file or data.

When I select restore selected data although I can see Password Keeper, it is greyed-out, I can't check the box to restore it and it says underneath it that dimmed entries are read-only data types and cannot be restored.

The new Torch 9800 definitely has Password Keeper installed.

I can't see the point of being able to back something up if you can't restore it because it's read-only. Do you think I'm missing something or some step I need to go through?

I don't think you needed to worry, but put that aside for the moment.

This is a new one on me. I searched and found KB04461-Unable to restore read only databases when using the Advanced Backup and Restore function of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Take a look at that and see if it helps. I don't know how it applies to password keeper, but, hey, it's worth trying.

EDIT: I just noticed that article referrs to BES. Maybe it's doesn't apply to your problem?

EDIT #2: I'm in over my head. Searching on that error message, everyting I find is referrencing BES. If you are on BES, then see that link I posted. If you are, then maybe the links will help.

SPOT ON!

I'm hugely impressed. You really nailed that one.

I am on BES and I started to look at the recommendations about disabling wireless sync for calendar, address book etc, when it occurred to me that perhaps the Password Keeper also has wireless sync capability and that it might also be enabled.

True enough, it was enabled. I disabled it and it l was then able to restore my old Password Keeper database.

I am more than impressed. Well done and thanks.

Don't be impressed.

Rule #1: When the BlackBerry is doing something weird, do a hard reset (look it up....hint, see blackberryfaq.com). Just about always, this will correct the funny stuff.

Rule #2: There are hardley ever any new questions. If the hard reset didn't work, do a search on the exact error message.

I couldn't have helped except you posted the error message. All I did was search and point.
