Internet browser and default browser for links in messages

We would like to enable our users to browse the Internet using the Internet Browser and not use our BES infrastructure but at the same time we have an important corporate web application that sends links via email so the default browser has to be the BlackBerry Browser (BTSC doc ID KB15310). But if the default browser is the BlackBerry Browser, the Browser icon does not open the Internet Browser, instead it opens the BlackBerry Browser
We already set the IT Policy MDS Browser Use Separate Icon to TRUE.
We need to set the default browser to BlackBerry Browser and have the Internet Browser enabled for the user. Is there a way to have this functionality?

Doesn't matter what is the initial value for the "default browser".
If the value is "BlackBerry Browser", it simply means that when user starts the Browser application, it first loads the BlackBerry Browser. Conversely, if the value is "Internet Browser", it simply means that when user starts the Browser application, it first loads the Internet Browser.
If your BlackBerry has both the service books for the browsers, it will automatically detect and use the correct transport accordingly. By default, any requests to pull the Intranet web addresses will be using the BlackBerry Browser.

If the default browser is Internet Browser any attempt to open an Intranet URL inside an email gives an error message HTTP Error 504 Gateway Timeout and if we press Details we see that the hostname could not be resolved.

Doesn't make sense. You will get "HTTP Error 504 Gateway Timeout" if your BlackBerry have these Settings:
(1) Default browser configuration: Internet Browser
(2) Default MDS browser configuration: Internet Browser
Try changing these which works fine for me:
(1) Default browser configuration: Internet Browser
(2) Default MDS browser configuration: BlackBerry Browser

These settings are fine if you're just interested in the functionality of the browsers.
But with those settings in place when a user clicks on a URL inside a message the device uses the Internet Browser first and, of course, it doesn't resolve any internal hostname on the Internet.
On the devices:
Default browser configuration: BlackBerry Browser
Default MDS browser configuration: BlackBerry Browser
And the following IT Policies set:
Allow IBS Browser: Yes
MDS Browser Use Separate Icon: Yes (So that users are aware that one browser is for Internet and the other is INTRANET)
