How would I access or receive email for BIS vs the 500 MB data plan?

Is the BIS method pushed to my BB, vs having to go through a browser for the 500 MB data plan?

BIS = (a) data plan - personal email setup

BES - (b) data plan - personal + corporate email setup

Both methods include setups to push email to your device... you don't need to retrieve via web.

BIS is required to have email accounts setup on your BlackBerry. I'm not familiar with Rogers' plans, but I do know that your BB must be activated on the BIS system in order to have email sent to your BB.

If there is virtually no difference between the function of receiving emails, AND one was able to get a discount on the 500 MB data plans, then I would go with the data plan.

Any thoughts?

Again, I don't know the details of the Rogers plans, but I would believe that the 500 MB data plan will NOT work for BlackBerry email. It seems that that plan is for internet usage on non-BB devices. You MUST have a BB data plan in order to connect to the BB network and have all of the features that a BB provides, including email.

With Rogers, you will need a Blackberry plan for your blackberry. Their "normal" data plans are for windows mobile devices. They actually won't give you a Blackberry with a "normal" data plan. You get the Blackberry Plan for the amount of data you want and it either comes equipped with the BIS or BES capability so all your email and other data usage counts toward the data amount included in your plan. Unless you have one with WiFi and use it on that, of course. But that's fit for a different thread =) . So BIS and a 'data plan', on Rogers are not separate. You get the Blackberry plan, you get the BIS capability. Hope this helps! =D

Ahhh....I think I see. So if I switch from the $15 BB UL personal email plan to the $25/$30 500 mb BB data plan, then the email will chew up some of the 500 mb.

Hmmmmm...so I must figure out if I can get a credit on the data plans, and how much data my email will use up.

Rogers offers new data packages for all devices(which is mentioned in the other forum):

That's pretty much it. I'll give you my example of usage. I lucked out and got their promotion of 6GB for $30/month (on top of my voice plan). Out of the 6Gb, I have only used, at maximum, 75Mb in one month. This is with approximately 10-20 emails a day, relatively low web browsing, constantly downloading/redownloading applications with updating so much, Windows Live Messenger (very often). I'm basically sitting on an unlimited amount, for me. I will never hit 6Gb. I don't think I'll ever hit 500Mb, to be honest. So I would go for the 500Mb one and then you can gauge your usage per month on your bills and if you ever need to go higher, they won't fight with you if you want more. =)

Blackberries require a BIS or BES plan to receive email.

If you get a generic 500MB data plan, you will not have Blackberry push e-mail - or any e-mail for that matter.

However, with Rogers, the 500MB "generic" data plan and the 500MB BIS plan is priced the same, except the BIS plan has Blackberry push e-mail too

I have the rogers $45 BB data plan. Excluding the phone part of the deal, I get 500mb of BIS service. Like the other guy said, 500 is quite a bit and I doubt ill ever hit that limit.
