Red face Upgrade Curve(s) 8330 (only 1) to Z10

Please Login to Remove!

I have 2 Curve 8330s, both of which use Desktop Manager to sync to Outlook. My questions:

1. I am thinking of upgrading 1 of these to the Z10. Will I still be able to sync both to Outlook using the newer version of whatever Desktop Manager becomes?

2. Has anyone tested using the new Z10 with the Bluetooth in a 2007 Lexus GS350?

No. BB10 devices do not sync to Outlook at all. You will need to convert to an online sync service such as outlook.com or Gmail.

Just read threads on another forum that it looks like the Outlook sync feature is imminent in an upgrade. Of course, will still beg the question as to whether I can sync the Curve too. Will post to group when I see/get answers.

Many thanks.

Imminent? Not really. No one has a clue when it will (may) be out.

Desktop Manager does not support the BB 10 devices.
BlackBerry Link does. Right now there is one way support of PIM data.
So at a minimum you will need to use Desktop Manager for the 8330 and Link for the Z10.

And Link does not sync e-mail if that is a requirement.

So just to confirm...

Coming from the 9930 (and thinking about going to the Q10 when available), it's possible to take my .ipd backups made from DM and use BB Link to import the contacts, texts, emails, photos, etc. into the BB10 device? In other words, will BB Link read the .ipd file w/o limitations (exception being e-mail sync)?

Nope.
No one said ANYTHING about IPD files, did they?

Link has a facility (which somewhat works) to move data from one device to another, similar to the switch device wizard.

Link has a backup and restore facility.

No one said anything about IPDs.

The IPD's were just an assumption. Ugh.... OK. I researched the link and found the how-to procedure:

Transfer from iPhone & Android to BlackBerry 10 Smartphones - US

It seems everything will transfer except the emails. Tasks and memos will only transfer if it was a BIS phone.

I guess the new backup utility will create some new proprietary file.
