Cool 8530 Overheating and Told to upgrade...

Please Login to Remove!

Hello. We are running BES in our environment and currently have 4 of the Blackberry Curve 8530 models and the other BB's are previous models. Yesterday one of the 8530's started overheating. After looking out here determined it was probably a battery and had it swapped at one of the US Cellular (our carrier) stores. The person there told our employee there was an update for the phone to handle the battery issues.

Is this true? If so, what version? Can I push this out via BES? There is only 1 phone with this issue, but it just started, so far the other 3 are fine and we got these all at the same time.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Well, just wanted to note that this post doesn't really apply. However; if someone has an answer about how to do to this, would be helpful to share.

About 1 week after the battery was replaced and not overheating, then there were problems with the speaker. So our Cell provider sent us a replacment.

After about 1 week having the replacement, the Blackberry itself just died one day. No errors, no warnings, it was fine in the morning and by noon it simply shut off by itself and wouldn't turn back on. We swapped with working batteries, put on the charger, etc. Nadda. So, Our Cell provider sent us a second replacement phone. Cross your fingers this one doesn't die or overheat or have any issues.

Overheating seems to be a frequent problem with this model Berry. Whether or not you get one that does seems to be the luck of the draw. It seems like you've drawn some short straws. I'm keeping a sharp eye on mine while I break it in.

It appears that there is one of the runs of the device that is having the overheating issue. The overheating seems to be caused by a defect in the charging circuit. It over heats because the charging circuit is discharging so quickly it causes the device to heat up. We have had 5 in the past two weeks. I have spoken with verizon to see if they can start tracking these and see which run or runs of the 8530 are effected.
