BB Pearl 8130 & BB Curve Switch?

Not gonna lie, I'm completely clueless about this.
I had no idea what to name this question, and I'm not sure how to even explain the question that I have, but I'll try to make the most sense that I can.
I currently have a Blackberry Pearl 8130 (with virgin, bought by me) and a Blackberry Curve (with Rogers).
The curve was found by my father at a Tim Hortons in another province, and I spent about two weeks trying to contact the owner but I've had no luck, so now I take it as finders keepers.
I noticed that the Curve about two days after I had it, it displayed a message saying "sim card rejected" (I have no idea what this means but maybe you could explain).
About three days ago, I dropped my Pearl and it hasn't been working too well, and I thought about using the Curve as my new phone.
What can I do to the Curve to change the phone number to my current phone number that is with my Pearl?
Is this even possible since they're different carriers?
I also read that Virgin does not use sim cards?
Can anyone make some sense of this? And explain how and why I can/can't use the Curve as my new phone?
