Numbers dont really concern me with total sales. I want to see NET adds. This wont be available for quite some time. (next quarterly report of course). That will be the true test. Sheer volume though, dont think a mobile device has done this in a weekend ever. Kudos to Apple for that.

it is impressive but i actually think more people stayed out of the lines this time. I want to see the numbers in the first month really.
There were lots of activation troubles but i doubt that hurt them as much as the lack of inventory at most of the stores.

Also it will be interesting to see the overseas numbers for the 20 countries after the first month.

I actually attended a hiring event last night. (going back to school full time so my options are limited to retail.) The store manager told me they had 350 people lined up outside the store in the mall. Another interesting fact is apple opens up a store every 9 days. I do think apple might pull a star bucks and over saturate the market with these stores popping up that fast. 1 Million unit sold in a weekend is impressive and I think you will see a good mix of new adds and upgrades I think they could have made more money on handsets and data plans if there were no US exclusive IMO.

If they would keep selling a million iPhones every two days I would start to worry. They simply wont. BB devices are still increasing steadily.(isn't it above 15 million worldwide already?). Let's wait and see how the Bold, Javelin, Kickstart and Thunder will do.

That is over 20 Million at the start of 2009!!

And again ask that same questions : "And how many simply got returned?"

How many BlackBerry devices? Or iPhone 3Gs? BlackBerry devices still sit below 3% return rate worldwide, and those numbers are net additions.

The numbers speak for themselves. Think what will happen when the Bold arrives. A lot of businesses have already ordered them to replace their current active devices.

Apple really does a good job marketing the iPhone. But like it has been said before. Are the numbers really showing their success? I am not losing any sleep over it.

You have to remember the number are not comparable because blackberry devices are offered on all carriers were Iphone is only offered on ATT in the US. So the numbers are in Rim's favor. This is through no fault of Rim but it is still a fact. I wont get an Iphone just because its ATT and i am sure others feel the same way.

I read 6 million iphones were out there before the 3G release, I still think they will be at or above RIM by the end of the year. It is tougher however as Sith says to keep track of Apple's numbers because they are not reporting to a centralized server. Still I think sales numbers will be above RIM. If I'm wrong come January then so be it but with 21 countries buying them now and another 40-45 before the end of the year I think they will move a ton of units.

and "USERS" is the key word.

That means people actually using them. That number is based of BIS and BES right accounts?

Device being sold is one thing. But people actually using them! I think thats what counts.

And the return rate on blackberry like Sith said is very low. I believe cellphone devices out there are anywhere from 17%-54% depending what phone. PDA's being the highest.

There's a difference between BlackBerry's total subscriber base and the number of iPhones sold. Honestly, there aren't 7 million active iPhone users.

*EDIT: What BallHawk said...

Those are impressive numbers. Nice job Apple. I just can't decide between the iPhone and Blackberry. I think the Thunder will definitely be some competition. I think I might like BB better though. I heard some iPhone 3G's had a yellowish tint on the screen. Blackberry is very nice though.
