Default Tour 9630 & Bold 9650

Please Login to Remove!

Is Bold 9650 actually Tour 2?

Why did Blackberry call 9650 a Bold when Blackberry already has Bold with 9000 and 9700?

I assume there is only two differences between 9630 and 9650 -- with Bold having WiFi and trackpad instead of trackball, right?

Thanks for the enlightment.

You pretty much have it figured out yourself. As far as the name change,
that is anyone's guess. You may see some references like:
Bold (nee Tour 2) 9650. Personally, I think the name change is confusing.

I just wonder why the name change is such an issue, it is a phone and it is a BlackBerry, it does its intended job so why does the name change bother so many?

Name change doesn't bother me all that much, just consider it confusing.
Love mine also, works fantastic!

Also, the internal memory on the Bold 9650 has been increased to 512mb, which most believe will make it OS6 compatibale, whereas the Tour likely won't be.

If you are happy with the Tour, hold off. But you will love
the trackpad and extra RAM on the 9650.

Wirelessly posted (Tour)

I compared my 9630 with a 9650 and the speed wasn't that much more noticeable, at least not enough to pay for the upgrade.

I think RIM did this for 2 main reasons.

1. "Bold" has been the flagship device and CDMA users may have had the perception that they were using a slightly lesser device. Calling the Tour 2 a Bold makes it seem like it's in the family of top-shelf BlackBerrys.

2. With all the issues the Tour had, especially the trackball glitches, RIM wanted to distance the new version of that device from the old. Leave the stink of "Tour" behind.
