Default To update OS or not on 9650; OS6 or 5.0.0.983

Please Login to Remove!

I would like some advice. I have a Verizon 9650 I have updated to 5.0.0.810 and it is working fine, with the occasional signal bounce but nothing that has caused me any major problems. Normally I am always on the bleeding edge but to be honest the pain of installing all the third party apps again (TeleNav, WorldMate Gold, etc) is getting to be a pain and a time sink.

So, my question really is- is the juice worth the squeeze for doing an OS update (.983 for OS5) or upgrade to OS6?

My only real complaint with .810 (and maybe all of OS5) is the browser- it is HORRIBLE. I only use it for work but even so, going to some pages and having to use the zoom to even read it is a real pain, and the pages don't really display correctly.

I know this is a personal opinion with people, but I am interested in opinions of those who have done the update (what does .983 offer that .810 doesn't) or upgrade to OS6.

Thanks for any and all opinions.
steve

People that use OS6 seem to like it, i don't because i have become very attached to the themes i have and current there is only the stock theme for 6.0, as far as 893 i dont have experience but i do have 975 since it was leaked and i can say it is rock solid and the browser is fine. So if you can live with the standard theme id say go for 6 if not i would stick with 975 until you hear from 893 users.

I'll chime in here... I updated my Sprint 9650 to 6.0.0.280 (not the .333, which is currently out...)' and can tell I love it!! And as far as your 3rd party apps go, I actually loaded this OS via desktop manager v6.0 (which everyone on here tells u not to) and everything reloaded perfectly. I've got probably a dozen plus 3rd party apps and all seem to be working perfectly.

IMHO, if the device isn't broken, then there is no reason to fix it.

If it is working as you want and need, why mess with it?

The newest I've found from Verizon Wireless is 5.0.0.975, not familiar with .810 nor .983. Guess I'll do a little searching.

The .983 is on the sticky post at the top of the listings in this forum, as was the .810 before it.

OK- another question. As I have .810 on my 9650, I would expect it to OTA update to the official VZW .975 BUT it says there is no update available. Why? due to the Vendor.xml file missing? Anyone know why?

Thanks
steve

The file download seems to be from Sprint, even though we can load it. Maybe being from Sprint is why we haven't seen any type of notification from VZW. Likely VZW doesn't have anything newer than .975, at least not yet.

I did what you are thinking of doing and after two days I "un-did it"
1 .I like using different themes and you can't with 6.0
2. that tray click drives me nuts every time you want to do something
3. My browser was either slower or got hung up frequently
4. the Options section is about 1/10 of what the 5.0 OS is and not easy to operate like the 5.0

everyone likes to be comfortable using their phone and I am very comfortable with my 5.0.0.983....

I updated from 5.0.x to 6.0.333 and so far 6.0 works great (Verizon 9650) and I'd say finally having a decent browser makes it worth the pain of upgrading.
